Welcome to another installment of our troubleshooting series where we aim to help our readers who own the #Samsung #Galaxy #Note5 fix the issues that they are experiencing with the phone. This particular model was released in 2015 and back then was one of the few models available in the market with a large display. It uses a 5.7 inch Super AMOLED screen that not only responds to finger touch but can also work with a stylus called an S Pen. Although this is a solid performing phone there are instances when certain issues can occur which we will be addressing today. Today we will tackle the Galaxy Note 5 screen went black issue & other related problems.

Note 5 Screen Went Black
Problem: Hello, i’ve a problem with my note 5 yesterday the screen went all violet the phone hadn’t been dropped just by itself i turned it off and the screen went black and the phone refuses to start up please if is there something that i can do cuz my friend says that the lcd should be replaced . thnx for ur concern
Solution: What you will want to do first in this case is to make sure that the battery has sufficient charge. Follow the steps listed below to charge your phone.
- Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure that any dirt or debris stuck in the port gets removed.
- Charge the phone for at least 20 minutes using its wall charger.
- If the phone does not charge then try using a different charging cord and wall charger. You should also try charging the phone from a computer USB port.
- Turn on the phone by pressing and holding both power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds.
In case the display is still black then try starting the phone in recovery mode. If the display works in this mode then I suggest that you do a factory reset. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data.
If the above steps fails to work then this might already be caused by a faulty display. The best thing to do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
Note 5 Not Charging With Car Charger
Problem: So I just started using this galaxy Note 5 about 2 weeks ago and it wouldn’t charge with the car charger but would with the wall charger. So my girlfriend and I thought it was the battery, which was very old and losing charge quickly anyway. So I had the battery replaced and it still won’t charge in the car. And I don’t mean it won’t hold a charge in the car like I’m running too many things and the watts in is less than the watts out. I mean the phone won’t even recognize its plugged in. It’s not the cord, it works in the wall, it’s not the charge port, it works in every other capacity. What is odd is that it charges in the USB of the car, but not the 12V outlet. Both of the car chargers work with other devices. My only guess thus far is that the amperage ratings are too high in the new chargers or for some reason the new chargers aren’t equipped for the old charging systems but it’s all just hardware so you’d think it would just burn up the phone if it was taking too much current. I did try to plug it in to a 1.0 Amp port on a portable charger, which didn’t work but that charger is unreliable enough to invalidate the test. Thank you for reading this email. Solution: there are two possible factors that can cause this particular problem. First, the char charger might be faulty. But since it works when charging other devices then the second factor is the most likely reasons which is a problem with one of the pins of the charging port. Try cleaning the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure to remove any dirt or debris present in this port. If the issue still persists then you will need to have the charging port of the phone checked and possibly replaced at a service center.
Note 5 Verizon Version Adds +001 When Dialing
Problem: So I recently bought a factory reset samsung galaxy note 5 verizon unlocked phone from eBay. I live in the UK. I was informed that it would work on my UK virgin mobile SIM network. However I have come across some issues. The first one being I had the language setup as English UK. However this wouldn’t allow me to use contacts app so I changed it to American English in the language settings and the contacts started working again. However the issue now I have is that whenever I send a message or want to make a phone call from my contacts it puts a dial out number before it +001. But I am +44 as I live the UK and now cant make calls from my phone as the number is incorrect. Has to be in UK language setting to ring people but then the contacts app doesn’t work. Another issue I have is when I go to the settings to see what my phone number is setup to it says a number I do not recognise and isn’t my number. Is there a way to reset my phone number details information in the settings by dialling a MMI code or something. How can I setup up my phone to work in the UK with my SIM and keep my phone in UK English language setting and still use my contacts app?
Solution: While it’s true that you can use an unlocked Verizon Note 5 on another network you won’t be able to use the full features of the phone if you use it on a GSM network. For the dialing issue that you are having try turning off the assisted dialing feature of the phone.
- From a Home screen, tap Phone.
- From the Phone screen, tap the Menu icon (upper-right).
- Tap Settings.
- Tap More settings.
- Tap Assisted dialing to turn off.
From the settings you can also configure the following
- Reference country
- Country code
- IDD prefix
- NDD prefix
- City/area code
- National number length
Note 5 Verizon MMS Not Working When Used On AT&T
Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Factory network Verizon. I have At&T. My boyfriend got me the phone as a present and apparently AT&T was not available. I can’t afford to get a new phone and my old phone was damaged in a car accident I was in. He fiddled around with the settings, and everything works except mms. It will not send or receive: pictures, group messages or forwarded. I found an article here which suggested the Apn might have to be changed. He had already done it for the apn, but not the mms or proxy, etc. So I just spent all this time trying that (via information found on the internet) and I was really hopeful, but no dice. Is there just no hope for me? I started a new job right around the time I got this phone and they constantly send out group messages which I know because that little download button shows up by their name. It will never download and eventually tells me that my messages have expired or are no longer available. It’s frustrating just in real time/ life, but its my job that has me looking it up at 4 am. Please help!!!
Solution: There are two things that you need to check for this particular problem. First, make sure that you have an active mobile data subscription. This is because the MMS uses a mobile data connection for sending and receiving. Second, you will need to make sure that the APN settings of the phone are correct.
