Some users may have known this already but Samsung’s Auto Network Switch feature has been a two-edged sword. Designed to automatically switch the phone’s internet connection to a better network mode if it detects poor connection, this feature has been the source of frustrations for some.

Mobile data and Wi-Fi keep restarting themselves even though I have switched them off through the shortcut  and disabled them  in system setting. They restart within 3 minutes of disabling. I have not used my mobile data until yesterday when i had to use Google Maps. Since then this issue has arisen. My phone is Android 4.4. When my phone connects to a Wi-Fi network and I then leave the range of the Wi-Fi, my phone will only go back to 3G service. I have to restart the phone to get back to 4g LTE. Other phones I have do not have this issue. I am running on Boost Mobile. — Randy

I have always thought that when you switch to use Wi-Fi, that you could turn off Mobile data on your device so as not to use data from your allotted amount from the carrier. When I have done this, some applications, internet pop up saying it cannot connect. Better yet times when I leave the mobile data on and use Wi-Fi, it still sometimes say no connection. My WiFi will not actively connect once near the known networks of my home or other various locations it has in the past. I must power off and on the WiFi radio in order to get it to connect. Once I do it connects immediately. If I pull up the wifi once in range and I have yet to cycle the power to the wifi is stuck in scanning mode. It will not auto switch. Once I move away from the wifi it connects to after cycling power it loses connection and migrates right back to 4g. I have turned off every selection you previous artist have mentioned. I have also cleared the Cache Partition as you have described. I too suffer battery drain that has increased. Any more ideas? — Mike

I am unable to keep my wifi on line at either of our homes.  Our commuters have no problem.  I have taken it into US CELLULAR 3 times and they say they have no problem with my phone.  Yet unless I am practically sitting on top of my network I lose my wifi connection in the middle of doing things on the internet.  My husband’s phone the Galaxy S5 does not have a problem in either of our homes.  This started when the phone wanted to update it’s self this spring.  I am at a loss as to what to do. It just keeps dropping connection all the time even though I have 3 to 4 bars on my phone. I have also tried that *228 to reset with the towers that US CELLULAR told me to do.  It didn’t help. — Frances

Hello, when i move away from a wifi area and the phone switches to the cellular data network i lose connectivity. I have to then activate and deactivate airplane mode for it to reconnect to the data network to restore connectivity. For some weird reason the phone does not switch networks properly. If your Galaxy Note 3 suffers from any of these issues above, doing the standard firmware troubleshooting is a must. Unlike most mobile data connectivity problems which may be triggered by incorrect network settings or network- or account-related troubles, the issues mentioned above can be traced to a bad firmware or app. In this regard, the suggested troubleshooting below focus on the things that you can do on your phone.

Download the latest updates

We’ve heard of some updates causing problems to an otherwise stable device but let’s not forget that most of them are meant to improve user experience and fix problems. Always grab the opportunity whenever an update, whether for an app or the system, is available. The Android community has been aware of the problems mentioned in this post for a while so there’s no telling when Google or the developers release an update to fix them.

Delete the cache partition

Outdated system cache can lead to all sorts of problems. By ensuring that the phone runs on fresh system cache may not only fix the issue but is actually helpful in preventing other issues like apps freezing, crashing, slow performance, among others. Here’s how to do it:

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power.
  • When ‘GALAXY Note 3′ appears on the screen, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home button.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home buttons.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • Press the Power key to select and wipe the cache.
  • With ‘reboot system now’ highlighted, press the Power key to restart the device.

Reboot your Note 3 in Safe Mode

Some apps can mess up your phone’s OS big time and the result is sometimes unpredictable. A third-party app-initiated problem can manifest in many forms including the ones above. To verify if one of your apps is the culprit, restarting your Note 3 in Safe Mode is the convenient answer. While in safe mode, your phone prevents third party apps from running (although there may be exceptions). By following the steps below, you should get know if your problem is due a third party app or not.

  • Turn the device off.
  • Press and hold the Power button.
  • When ‘GALAXY Note 3′ appears on the screen, press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume Down key until the device finishes restarting. It may take up to 45 seconds for the device to load safe mode.
  • ‘Safe mode’ will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • Release the Volume Down key when you see ‘Safe Mode.’

Uninstall apps

The next best thing to do after rebooting your Note 3 in safe mode is to uninstall apps provided the phone works normally. It may be tricky to pinpoint which app is causing the problem so what you can do is to remove the most recently installed first. If you can recall that the problem occurred right after installing a specific app, you must try to uninstall it right away. If the problem fails to occur after removing an app, you may have eliminated the cause.

Restore the phone to its defaults via master reset

Also known as factory reset, this process should be the last troubleshooting step that you must do if above solutions won’t help. Remember to create a backup copy of all your personal data before you proceed.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power
  • When ‘GALAXY Note 3′ appears on the screen, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home button.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home buttons.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘delete all user data.’
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to turn the restart the device.
