Samsung files patent for a device similar to the ASUS Padfone

It seems like Samsung is planning to tread on ASUS’ territory as a new patent filing reveals a Padfone like concept from the Korean manufacturer. Samsung has been granted the patent D685,774 quoted as “Terminal for Wireless Communication“.

The design shown in the patent filing seems a little different from what most of us would imagine though. The smartphone which docks into the tablet has an oddly shaped top half to fit in nicely with the curves of the design. So it seems more like a tablet with a removable smartphone rather than the other way around. It will be interesting to see if ASUS has something to say about this if and when the Samsung device is made public. For now, it’s only a patent filing and we can only speculate about the features.

We certainly like the idea of a Padfone competitor, and knowing Samsung, there’s bound to be something special about it. We’ll eagerly wait for more information on this mystery Samsung made Padfone rival, as we don’t have too many such devices in the market right now.
