Rumor: Qualcomm working on a 10-core Snapdragon 818 chipset

Snapdragon 818

Manufacturers max out at 8 cores for mobile processors these days. But according to a new report, Qualcomm might be ready to up the ante with a rumored 10 core or deca-core chipset. It is said that the Snapdragon 818 could have this honor and might enable desktop like processing power on mobile devices.

It is said that the SoC is still in its early developmental stages, so it might not hit the markets anytime soon. Keeping that in mind, we suggest you take this report with a pinch of salt. The leaked image tells us that this SoC features two high-power CPU cores, two mid-power CPU cores and four low-power CPU cores.

Both the low power and mid power CPU cores are based on Cortex-A53 with clock speeds of 1.2 and 1.6 GHz respectively. The high power cores on other hand are based on Cortex-A72 with a clock speed of 2.0 GHz. It is said that this chipset will be made using the company’s 20nm CPU architecture.

There’s still a lot we don’t know about this SoC, so we’ll reserve judgment for until Qualcomm makes it official. What do you think?
