Photo taken with Snapseed hints at possible upcoming Google Play launch

When Google acquired Nik Software last month, the company mentioned that it is developing a version of the photo-editing and sharing app for Android. Now, a hint that such app might be arriving soon has possibly surfaced.

Senior Engineering VP for Google Vic Gundotra recently posted on his Google+ account a photo of a sunset that appears to be taken using Snapseed. Snapseed is currently available to iOS users, and it is highly unlikely that Google’s Senior Engineering VP uses an iOS-based mobile device. Thus, some concluded that this could only point to Snapseed for Android having an impending launch. If the assumption is correct, then the photo published on Google+ also reveals that Snapseed for Android will be closely integrated with the social network, allowing users to publish Snapseed photos instantly on their Google+ accounts.

The iOS version of Snapseed is a direct competitor of Instagram, a company that Facebook had been able to acquire. The Snapseed App, according to its iTunes page, is TIPA’s Best Mobile Photo App 2012 and the iPad App Of The Year, as well. It offers a feature called AutoCorrect, which makes enhancements on photos straight away. It also has Selective Adjust, which allows users to choose the regions in the photo that they want to adjust using controls like Saturation, Contrast, and White Balance. Like Instagram, Snapseed also comes with filters such as Drama, Vintage, Grunge, and Tilt-Shift, as well as borders. Cropping and rotating are likewise possible. Furthermore, it lets users publish their photos immediately on social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and Instagram. Snapseed is able to save images in JPEG and TIFF format, and even as a RAW File. It offers support for various languages, including English, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, French, and Brazilian Portuguese. It is still unknown which of these features will be available on the Android version of the Snapseed app.
