Nokia X Sells Out In Just 4 Minutes In China

It looks like Nokia finally has a certifiable hit in its hands with the Nokia X. The latest report coming from China is that the device sold out in just 4 minutes after its release in at 10AM March 24 (Beijing Time). This is pretty impressive indeed as this happens to be the first Android device that the company has released with the Nokia X+ and the Nokia XL soon to follow.

Previously it was also reported that the Nokia X had a rather high number of pre-orders which even reached a peak of 10 million units. This was however obtained through dubious methods as anyone can pre-order at least 3 of the said Android model without making any payment at all.

During the commencement of the sales of the device gave two options to those who pre-ordered, make the payment to own the device or forfeit the pre-order. Those who were not able to pre-order will be served last if there are any units still left.

Right now no actual figures have been released yet. A promo however has been launched that gave the first 10,000 customers a pack of peripherals and services so we can assume that more than 10,000 units were sold in just 4 minutes. The next batch of Nokia X units will be released 31 and is expected to sell out as well.

Despite being an Android device the Nokia X does not come pre-installed with Google services. It has an interface very similar to that of Windows Phone models and it uses Microsoft’s services instead. This does not mean that consumers won’t be able to install Android apps on it as consumers can sideload the apk files or get them straight from the Nokia store.

Experts say that the reason why this device is becoming quite popular is that it has a very durable build quality, it sells at a budget price, and is an attractive device overall.

  1. It’ll be an uphill battle until they can get some traction in the Western world, but I don’t doubt their ability to get that respect again. Nokia is an AMAZING brand.

  2. Indeed. And I wonder if those figures are high, if it’ll encourage Nokia, despite being Microsoft owned, to dip into the Android world with more Android-based Nokia phones.

  3. If this trend continues, Nokia’s brand may again get the respect it deserves.
For several years now, it has played catch up but this may be an early sign of Nokia’s reemergence.
    Let’s see how this unfolds.

  4. I wonder what Microsoft is thinking right now. I know that this device is not hot selling all because it runs Android, but its operating system must have been a significant contributing factor in its sales success right now.
Microsoft’s OS is still a loser I guess.

  5. I didn’t either Brad. Way to go Nokia, that is pretty impressive. It would be interesting to see what the final figures are after a few months.
