What To Do If NBA 2K21 Stops Responding On Xbox Series S
Games like the NBA 2K21 are optimized for the Xbox Series S but it seems like some gamers are having some issues while playing with it. Among the most common problems you may encounter is when the game just stops responding for no apparent reason or cause.
Most of the time, those issues are caused by some minor glitches with the software or your console itself. That’s why it’s important that you troubleshoot them to know what the issue is all about and how to prevent it from happening again. So if you’re one of the gamers that’s bugged by this issue, here are the things you can do:
Fix #1: Force stop the game and reopen it
When it comes to fixing games that just stop responding, the first thing you have to do is to force quit it and then try again. More often than not, such an issue is just due to a minor glitch, that’s why stopping it will often fix the problem. So here’s what you should do:
- To do so, press the Xbox button on your controller.
- Highlight NBA 2K21 and hit the Menu button.
- Highlight Quit and press A to close it.
After doing such a procedure and the game’s performance hasn’t improved, then move on to the next solution.
Fix #2: Check your Internet connection
Another thing that can cause the game to stop responding is an unstable Internet connection. It’s because the game client will constantly reconnect to its servers and if your connection isn’t stable, it may not be able to communicate with the servers, and thus, will result in a problem like this. So here’s what you should do:
- Press the Xbox button on your controller.
- Highlight Settings and press A to open it.
- Select General if it’s not selected yet, and then open Network settings.
- Select Test network connection. If it says your console is connected to the Internet, then try doing a speed test.
- Select Test network speed & statistics, and wait until the speed test is completed.
Connection issues can often be fixed by restarting your router as it refreshes the connection between your devices.
Fix #3: Check the NBA 2K servers
If your Xbox shows it has a fast and stable Internet connection but some games still lag and stutter, then the problem can be with the servers. It’s possible that there’s a current outage or the servers are under maintenance. That’s what you have to check next and here’s how it’s done:
- Log on to NBA 2K official website and click Game Server Status to know if the game’s servers are fine.
- You may also visit the Xbox Live Status page to know if some Xbox services are down.
If the disconnection problem is caused by server issues, then you just have to wait it out as it will definitely be fixed in an hour or two. However, if the servers are up and running, then try the next solution.
Fix #4: Reinstall the game
After making sure that your Internet connection is fast and stable, and that the servers are up and running, your last resort will be to delete the game from your console to also erase all the game cache and files. After that, reinstall the game and it should work perfectly. Here’s how it’s done:
- Press the Xbox button on your controller.
- At the Home tab, highlight My games & apps and press A.
- Select See all to view all your games and apps.
- Highlight NBA 2K21 then press the menu button on the controller.
- Select Uninstall and press A.
- Now select Uninstall All and confirm it.
When the game is uninstalled, restart your console one more time and reinstall NBA 2K21. It should work properly now.
