Motorola Atrix 2 Getting Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Soak Test

We really had quite an uproar when we release our last article suspecting that Motorola wouldn’t be putting out an update for the Atrix 2. There was much disappointment to be had and raging comments, and for a good reason too. It seems as if Motorola is pushing out a soak test for Atrix 2 users. The software was first suspected to be a simple Gingerbread update, but the firmware is actually going to be Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. I’m not sure if this was the plan all along, or if the internet outrage is what pushed them to do it. They haven’t released a statement yet concerning all the uproar, so it makes me wonder if this soak test is a result of that uproar. Just speculation though.

Motorola’s official software update page still lists the handset as “further plans coming soon.” Keep in mind that Soak Tests, are generally just ways of testing the waters to see if the update will work. At least, as I have experienced. It does bring hope to Atrix 2 users though, and frankly, I pray this somehow works out for the company, other wise I think they will have a pretty huge loss in customers, as ICS has been promised to Atrix 2 users in the past on a numerous amount of different occasions.

Participants in Motorola’s feedback program have already starting receiving invitations to take part in the preliminary test of the new update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The message that has been issued out reads:

Thanks for signing up for the Atrix 2 software test. Our apologies for the delay in starting this test! The software will begin to be pushed out later this afternoon; however, it may take several hours for all targeted devices to receive the update.

We’re eager to hear your feedback. Please share your experience on the private community provided, and via the survey I will send out after you’ve had some time to work with the software.

Whatever the case, it’s awesome to see that Motorola is trying to make an effort to fix the mistakes they have made. Then again, all of this just could of been bad wording on Motorola’s part and we’re actually going to be seeing Ice Cream Sandwich after all. I guess we’re just going to have to find out how the soak test ends up playing out, as I think that will be the ultimate and deciding factor. Now, if Motorola could just release a bit of news on some other devices (like the Atrix 4G). I’m sure most everyone would be excited to hear that one will be getting ICS too, but alas, we have no news on it as of yet. But. Stay tuned, there will surely be something after all of this crazy outrage!

Are you one of the people that was invited to Motorola’s soak test? Have you received your update yet? Is it working out for you? Let us know in the comments below, we’d love to hear from you!

For those not in the soak test yet, are you still going ahead with Motorola, or do you think Motorola has done enough damage as it is?
