Possible LG Optimus G2 Specs Revealed

Although the LG Optimus G has not hit the market in some regions, its maker is already rumored to be preparing its descendant. According to Korea’s MK Business News, the new phone, which is unofficially called the LG Optimus G2, may debut in May.

The smartphone will supposedly have a 5-inch full HD 1080p display, which is an improvement over the 4.7-inch 1280×768 display of its predecessor. It is also rumoured a 2GHz quad-core Qualcomm CPU, which would be better than the 1.5GHz processor on the Optimus G. As for its RAM, LG might add to the 2GB of RAM found on the current flagship. However, the detail that grabs the most attention is that it may have onboard Android Key Lime Pie, which is believed to be the name of the next version of Android after Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Since LG is a Google partner with its Nexus line, the company may be among the first to get Key Lime Pie. Ubergizmo also reports that it may have a 3rd generation LTE radio. Meanwhile, its camera is still unknown, but it could be better than the 13-megapixel one found on the LG Optimus G.

If the rumor is accurate, the LG Optimus G will be a contender against other rumored releases in the upcoming year. It appears that the trend is towards 5-inch displays and 1080p displays. Sony’s Yuga phone also packs a similar screen while the Samsung Galaxy S4, from LG’s fellow Korean manufactuer, is also speculated to have a 4.99-inch device with a 1080p SuperAMOLED display. HTC, for its part, already  released the Droid DNA handset, which has a 5-inch 1080p display in the United States, as well.

LG has successfully impressed many with its two recent product releases, the Optimus G and the Nexus 4. Let’s see if this smartphone will continue to help the company better establish itself in the global market.
