LG LS970 Eclipse 4G LTE/ LG E970 Smartphone to Launch by Two U.S. Carriers

LG Electronics is preparing to launch a new smartphone in the US market. The device will be available from both AT&T and Sprint. On AT&T, the device will carry the name LG E970 whereas it will be known as the LG LS970 Eclipse 4G LTE on Sprint.

The smartphone, which is considered high-end and will most likely be LG’s flagship phone for the year, is scheduled for release around October 31st. Currently, official details regarding the device are scant. However, according to a recent report on Bluetooth Special Interest Group, the LG-branded handset supports LTE connectivity as well as Bluetooth 4.0.

Benchmark tests released last May also give clues regarding the phone’s specifications. Reportedly, the device will run on a 1.5 GHz processor and Adreno 320 graphics. The chipset’s exact model is unknown, although it is rumored to be either a dual-core S4 MSM8960 Krait chipset or a quad-core APQ8064 proc. In any case, both chipsets are pretty fast, and should be adequate for a high-end device.

Its display will probably measure 4.67 inches and and pixel density of 320 ppi. It is uncertain whether the device on Sprint and the one on AT&T will have the exact same specifications. If the benchmark test is to be believed, the AT&T model will have a slightly higher screen resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels as compared to the Sprint version’s 1280 x 768p.

As for its other features, the device is expected to come with a front-facing camera with a 1.3 MP sensor; a rear-facing camera with a 13 MP sensor; 16 GB of internal storage, and 2 GB of RAM. It could also have NFC technology as well as a 2,100 mAh removable battery. Support for 4G LTE, as implied by the phone’s name, will definitely be onboard.

This device will be LG’s answer to the Samsung Galaxy S III and the HTC One X, both of which are popular devices for the same target market. LG has not released a tentative price or launch date, but this is apt to be released in the fourth quarter of this year.
