Google’s newly launched Google Play editions of the LG G Pad 8.3 and the Sony Z Ultra are beginning to receive an update to Android 4.4.2, ending their rather short stay on Android 4.4. The OTA is now pushing to both devices, bringing them up to build number KOT49H – it’s a 52 MB update for the G Pad and a rather huge 444 MB file for the Z Ultra, and with the latter confirmed to include a fix for the app uninstall bug that was discovered on the first Google Play edition phablet.
Not counting the changes specific to the Z Ultra, Android 4.4.2 consists of mostly bug fixes, including fixes for an SMS vulnerability, exchange email, and the lockscreen music widget’s seek function, though the changelog simply mentions “performance, stability and bug fixes” as is standard for these point updates. As usual, the update will be pushed out in stages, so it could be a couple of days before you receive a notification for it on your device. Those with the G Pad 8.3 GPe can download the OTA file from the link below and update manually via ADB on a PC or through a custom recovery, as long as their device’s system files haven’t been changed in any way (a requirement that applies to the over-the-air install as well).
