Japanese Carrier DoCoMo Wants Google To Make Changes To Android

Last Wednesday, Japan’s largest carrier DoCoMo experienced a rather large service outage.¬† Oddly enough DoCoMo is blaming an Android application as one of the main sources for the disruption.

An Android application that enables “free of charge voice communication” is the cause of the disruption, according to this report. DoCoMo says that Android applications signals once every three to five minutes, which is more than ten times the normal volume, adding a lot of strain on their data network.

DoCoMo is planning on asking Google to reduce the amount of control signals to reduce the strain on their data network. DoCoMo contends that if Google doesn’t reduce the transmission of control signals it will result in more disruptions and in turn hurt the popularity of Android phones.
