HTC supposedly shrinking smartphone lineup following poor showing in the industry

HTC One M9

HTC’s One M9 flagship has been less than stellar as far as sales figures are concerned. A new report now suggests that the company is looking to shrink its smartphone lineup altogether so as to cut costs and increase profits.

The report suggests that the company is going to focus more on the high-end handsets, which could mean that the company’s midrange and budget Desire handsets might be seeing the end really soon. This is in stark contrast to the company’s policies from the past year, where it was focusing more on midrange and budget offerings.

But given the kind of impact that Xiaomi, Huawei and Lenovo have had on the midrange markets in regions of Europe, Asia etc, HTC couldn’t co-exist in the midrange market segment. The manufacturer’s One M9 flagship faced some issues at launch, mainly with the Snapdragon 810 chipset overheating. But the company has since issued some updates to the handset which have resolved the thermal issues to some extent.
