A reader named Tone Bone tipped Engadget off to the impending upgrade of the HTC Evo 4G to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

According to the photographed internal documents Sprint is planning an over the air (OTA) update of HTC Evo 4G’s on June 6th.  This update will include the latest version of Android available for phones, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and a number of maintenance fixes.

More after the break

The maintenance issues that will be fixed include a power drain issue when the battery is extremely low, SMS fixes, Spanish SMS fixes along with a fix to using multiple Gmail accounts on one device.

Within the four major OEM’s for Android (HTC, LG, Samsung and Motorola) HTC seems to be the manufacturer with the quickest turn around on updates when versions of Android are concerned.

The HTC Evo 4G is one of the best selling phones in Sprint’s history and definitely the best selling Android phone on Sprint’s network.  The follow up to the HTC Evo 4G, The HTC Evo 3D is expected June 24th according to this report.

As you can see from the graphic and the source piece over at Engadget if you don’t need to wait for the OTA upgrade a manual upgrade should be available on Friday.
