Check the microphone

Make sure that you are using the correct microphone. This usually occurs when switching between the built-in mic of your computer to the microphone of the headset.  To make sure that you are using the correct microphone check it from the Steam menu.

  • Open Steam then click the Steam menu in the menu bar and choose Settings
  • In the Settings menu, go to Voice and check out the currently used microphone under Recording (audio input) device. If the microphone is different than the one that you’re using, click on Change device.
  • Select the microphone that you’re actively using and then hit the Set Default button.

Check if Steam is signed in other computers

This problem can also occur if you have Steam signed in other computers. To make sure that only one computer is using your account you should change your password then login to your account using the new password. Other computers that are signed in to your account will be logged out.

Try turning off audio enhancements

  • Right-click on the volume icon (bottom-right corner) and choose Recording devices.
  • Select your active microphone and click the Properties button
  • Go to the Advanced tab and make sure the box associated with Enable audio enhancements is turned Off.
