How to fix Samsung Galaxy S5 “Unfortunately, Snapchat has stopped” error & other Snapchat issues

It seems like some Samsung Galaxy S5 (#Samsung #GalaxyS5) owners are bugged by the error “Unfortunately, Snapchat has stopped” which is obviously an issue with the app. Just this year, the app received several updates to upgrade its services including the addition of instant messaging and live video chatting.

Snapchat crashes even after factory reset

Problem: Hello, I have never had any problems with my Galaxy S5 before now but for some reason when using Snapchat last night it suddenly logged me out then when trying to log back in a notification popped up to say ‘unfortunately snapchat has stopped working’ with the options OK and cancel.

I have had this pop up on a few other apps but has always worked again after pressing ok.

I have cleared the cache/ data which did not help, restarted my phone, uninstalled and reinstalled app several times, and now even factory reset my phone. None of these have worked and still having the same problem.

I am addicted to Snapchat and feel as though I’m going to have to buy a new phone unless this is resolved. Have you any solutions on how I can fix this? Thank you!Gemma

Troubleshooting: There are times when other apps may interfere with Snapchat’s service especially those that also have access to the camera. To try to isolate the problem, boot your phone in safe mode.

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key.
  3. When ‘Samsung Galaxy S5’ appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

Now that you’re in safe mode, try opening snapchat. It should open normally if the cause of the problem was another third-party app. However, if the error occurs when you try to log back in, then it might have something to do with your internet connection. If you’re using mobile data, switch to WiFi just to see if Snapchat works with it. This is necessary because the app requires constant active internet connection to work.

If the problem persists, try (again) to reset your phone and this time follow these steps:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
  3. When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  4. When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

After the reset, let Snapchat be the first app you download and install and try to open it just to see if the error would still pop up. If so, then it’s the issue with the app and one way to help fix it is by reporting it to the developer. At this point, all you can do is wait for the developer address the problem or for Samsung to roll out an new update that may fix incompatibility issues with some apps.

Snapchat freezes on Galaxy S5

Problem: Hello, saw your recent post about the S5 crashing. Mine is crashing after an update, but with everything. I can barely open the phone without it freezing and sometimes it takes 5 minutes to get back to the normal screen.

Would you suggest a hard factory reset? I’m experiencing snapchat freezes too, but it goes way beyond that. Everything is slow, even opening my text messages sometimes can take up to a minute. Thank you for the assistance. Sincerely, Coleen.

Answer: It appears like it’s more of a firmware issue than anything else. If Snapchat freezes from time to time, it’s the firmware that freezes in general and not just the app. For severe performances problems after an update like this, a master reset is necessary to give the phone fresh start, although I understand why you wouldn’t want to do it. Believe, you will be into more trouble if you continued using the phone without resetting it after an update.

Screen goes yellow and black while using Snapchat

Problem: Hello, i think i may need to replace my galaxy S5, but I definitely would like your opinion. Sometimes when I’m on snapchat and my friends would send me videos and i would go to watch the videos like the screen would go yellow and black like its losing the feed to the video and that only happens on snapchat. Also sometimes when my phone is on the charger and i would turn on the screen you can see the screen like its blinking. I would definitely like your opinion. Thank you.

Can’t uninstall Snapchat from Galaxy S5

Problem: The other day, I was in Snapchat and my device froze. I waited for Snapchat to close and then closed all running applications and turned my phone off. The next day, the same thing happened. I tried to delete Snapchat, but it said I had no internet connection even though I had 5 bars. Again, I shut it down. Today, I turned my phone on and tried to delete Snapchat again. Again, it said I had no internet connection even though I had 5 bars. I turned my phone off. About 1 hour ago, I tried to turn my phone back on, but it froze while turning on. It’s been frozen for about 45 minutes. In the top left corner a blue light is glowing like it does when I turn my phone on, but my phone isn’t turning on. I tried hitting the power button again, I tried hitting the back button, and I tried just leaving it to load, but it’s still frozen. What do I do to fix this problem?

Troubleshooting: First of all, you don’t need an active internet connection to uninstall a third-party app, which is, in this case, is crashing. But since your phone can’t boot up, try to pull the battery out, replace it and turn the phone on. Once the phone is powered on, follow these steps to uninstall Snapchat:

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to ‘APPLICATIONS,’ then tap Application manager.
  4. Swipe right to the DOWNLOADED screen.
  5. Scroll to and tap SetDefaultLauncher.
  6. Tap Clear cache.
  7. Tap Clear data, OK.
  8. Tap Uninstall.

Snapchat won’t work on mobile data

Problem: Hi, my Galaxy used to be able to use apps like snapchat and google+ while on data but out of nowhere my phone started reading no Internet connection at the bottom of the screen. Now for some reason chrome and instagram still work but snapchat doesn’t on data, but it’s fine on WiFi. I’ve tried everything I’d really appreciate your help. — Billy

  1. It is not possible to open Snapchat in safe mode as only apps that came preinstalled on the phone can be operated in safe mode.
