How to fix Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus Black Screen of Death Issue

The Black Screen of Death (BSoD) issue occurs from time to time regardless how powerful your device is. Even the new Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus may experience it because it’s usually a firmware-related problem, unless of course, your phone suffered a physical damage that shattered the display or it was left soak in water for a long period of time.

Contrary to what many believe that it’s a hardware problem, it’s not. In fact, you may be able to make your phone respond again just by doing a couple of procedures. This has been among the common issues reported by users of the Galaxy S9 last year so we already encountered it several times. Troubleshoot Galaxy S10 Plus with Black Screen of Death

A firmware crash is often the common cause of this problem. The phone may turn off by itself and would no longer respond when you press and hold the power key. It won’t even respond even if you connect it to its charger. But you know what? You can fix this by doing the following procedures…

First solution: Try doing the Forced Restart

It is a simulated battery pull procedure and it’s actually very effective in fixing problems like this. You just have to press and hold a combination of buttons so that your phone will simulate battery disconnect. It’s the same as pulling the battery out of your phone only that your Galaxy S10 Plus has a non-removable battery. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Press and hold the volume down and power keys at the same time for 10 seconds or more.

Most of the time, this procedure is enough to make your device respond. If it doesn’t, try doing the same procedure a couple more times and if is still remains unresponsive, try this:

  1. Press and hold the volume down button first and don’t let it go yet.
  2. While holding it down, press and hold the power key as well.
  3. Now, keep both keys held down together for 10 seconds or more.

If it’s just due to a firmware crash, then your phone should already be booting up now. However, if it still not responding, then move on to the next procedure.

Second solution: Try charging your phone and forced restart it

When your phone runs out of battery, it’s natural that it won’t respond no matter how long you hold the power key. But the thing is when you allow the phone to run out of battery, there are times when the system crashes as some services may not be properly shut down together with some hardware components. When this happens, you are already dealing with a couple of issues that both result to an unresponsive device. Here’s what you need to do to address it:

  1. Plug the original power adapter of your Galaxy S10 Plus to a working power source.
  2. Using the original cable, connect your phone to its charger.
  3. Leave it connected to the charger for 10 minutes or so regardless whether the charging symbol shows on the screen or not.
  4. After that, press and hold both the volume down and power keys at the same time for 10 seconds while the phone is still connected to the charger.

These procedures are more than enough to fix this kind of problem. However if the phone is still not responding after this, then you will have to bring it back to the store so that the technician can check it for you. If there’s really an issue with the hardware, it might be replaced with a new one.
