How To Fix Honor Note 10 Black Screen of Death Issue

One major issue that can occur on your device is when you can’t see anything at all on its display. This is usually called as the Black Screen of Death issue. The phone might be turned on and still be getting notifications or it might be off during this instance. This problem usually happens when you drop the phone or get it wet but it can also be caused by some form of software glitch. If this problem is caused by a faulty hardware component then there’s no other choice but to bring the device to a service center and have it repaired. However, if this is caused by a software glitch then the issue can most likely be fixed by following the troubleshooting steps listed below.

Charge the phone

One of the first things that you will need to do is to eliminate the possibility of the problem being caused by a drained battery.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air making sure that any dirt or debris stuck in it is removed.
  • Fully charge the phone using its wall charger.
  • In case the phone does not charge then try using a different charging cord and wall charger. You should also try charging the phone from a computer USB port in case charging using the wall charger fails to work.

Once the phone has sufficient charge you should try turning on the device and check if the Honor Note 10 black screen of death issue still occurs.

Perform a soft reset

Try to refresh the phone software by doing a soft reset. This will usually resolve issues caused by minor software glitches.

  • Press and hold the Power a key for up to 45 seconds.
  • Wait as the device restarts.

Check if the issue still occurs.

Start the phone in Safe Mode

There are cases when an app you downloaded will cause issues on the phone when they are installed. To check if an app you downloaded is causing the problem you will have to start the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.

  • Power off the phone by holding down the power button for a few seconds.
  • Press and hold the power button and release it when you see the Honor logo on screen.
  • After releasing the Power key, immediately press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Keep holding the Volume key till the phone completely boots up.
  • Once the phone boots up,  “Safe mode” should be appeared on the bottom of the screen

In case the issue does not occur in this mode then it is most likely caused by an app you installed. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

To find out what app is causing the problem you will need to perform a trial and error method. Restart the phone normally then uninstall the last app you downloaded before the issue occurred. Check if the screen still flickers. Repeat this step until the screen stops flickering after uninstalling an app. That particular app is most likely what’s causing the problem.

Wipe the cache partition of the phone

There are cases when the cached data stored in the dedicated partition of the phone can become corrupted. When this happens this this will usually cause certain issues to occur on the phone. To eliminate the possibility that this is what’s causing the problem you will have to wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.

  • Turn off your phone.
  • Press and hold Volume UP button along with Power button on your  device simultaneously for a few seconds
  • The phone will enter the stock recovery mode
  • Use volume buttons to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’ and use power key to select it
  • Reboot the system once the process is completed

Check if the issue still occurs.

Perform a factory reset

In case the above steps fails to fix the Honor 10 black screen of death issue then chances are this is caused by a software glitch. The best way to deal with this right now is to perform a factory reset. Take note that this will erase your phone data.

  • Turn off your phone.
  • Press and hold Volume UP button along with Power button on your  device simultaneously for a few seconds
  • The phone will enter the stock recovery mode
  • Use volume buttons to highlight  select wipe cache/factory reset and use power key to select it
  • Reboot the system once the process is completed

If the above steps doesn’t fix the problem then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked as this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component already.
