How To Add Footnotes In Word

If you work with Word on a regular basis, then you know that footnotes are often times essential to a document. Whether you’re a student needing to add references to an academic paper or you’re just trying to compile a report for work, footnotes are a key part of any document, and to they’re extremely easy to create.

Adding Footnotes

To add footnotes in Word, you’ll first need to go to the “Insert” tab. This is in between “Home” and “Draw.”

Next, find the “Header & Footer” group. Drop down “Footer” and you’ll see all of your options for adding one. There are blank options for adding in whatever you like, as well as page numbers, facets, and even footnotes with colored backgrounds.

Once you choose one an option, you’ll be able to use the “Design” tab to work out the details, such as sizing, margins, page alterations, and alignment.


It really is as simple as that, so you’ll be on your way to creating more professional and effective papers in no time!
