Hardware details of Samsung’s circular display smartwatch emerge

We’ve known that Samsung is planning to launch a circular display smartwatch during its next major mobile event, probably during the MWC 2015 event in March. And now, Sam Mobile has managed to gather some new details about this smartwatch with regards to its appearance.

If this revelation is anything to go by, Samsung’s upcoming smartwatch will have a “rotating bezel ring“, probably functioning as the minute hand of the clock. It is said that the device will also come with a power button which will be shaped like a crown, giving it that premium look. This smartwatch, codenamed Orbis, will feature technology which has been shown off on patent applications before.

There’s no word on the functionality of this crown shaped button, but we’re guessing it will act in the same way that Apple Watch does, which is to allow users to zoom into photos and scroll for content. The timing of the launch will be aligned perfectly with the release of Apple’s first wearable, so there will obviously be comparisons made.

It will be interesting to see how this Orbis wearable fares in the market, given the large number of smartwatches available today. We won’t be surprised if the wearable is running on Tizen rather than Android Wear as we’ve seen with the Gear S in September.
