Google Play Store now listing the Project Tango Tablet Development Kit

Google’s Project Tango Tablet Development Kit has now gone up on the Play Store. The listing specifies that the device is not available for sale right now, but that could easily change in the coming weeks. The fact that Google has put up a placeholder listing for the device is indicative of the fact that a launch is imminent.

The Project Tango Development Kit packs an enviable hardware specs sheet and a wide range of 3D sensors making it the most powerful Android tablet out there. It sports a 7 inch 1920 x 1200 resolution display, a Tegra K1 chipset, a 4 MP 2µm RGB-IR pixel sensor on the back accompanied by a 1 MP fixed focus sensor with IR LED flash on the front. The device also comes with 128GB of internal storage, 4GB of RAM, Android 4.4.2 KitKat and front facing stereo speakers, so it’s certainly no slouch as far as performance is concerned.

It goes without saying that Google will only produce limited quantities of this device as it is meant specifically for developers. Don’t expect the device to go easy on your wallets, as hardware like this warrants a hefty price tag. There have been rumors of LG mass producing a consumer grade Project Tango tablet in the future, so the future certainly looks bright for Google’s latest idea.
