It was only a few weeks back that Google made ebooks available in the country and now, the company has finally made Google Movies available for the users. It is also worth noting that only a few days back Google started selling their nexus devices, Nexus 7 initially to Indian customers after a long wait of almost 5 months.

The play store boasts of a number of recent movies from Hollywood like Argo, Ted, The Hobbit, The Bourne legacy, the amazing Spiderman etc. There are even some recent Bollywood movies like Ek Tha Tiger but the collection cannot be compared to the vast list of Hollywood movies available on the store. However, we expect the number of bollywood movies to increase in a few months time as the company manages to strike deals with Indian publishers.

The user can download or rent a movie in two formats, SD and HD. SD stands for Standard definition while HD stands for High definition and naturally the latter would cost you more. However, the company does not have a specific price band for movies on the store as some movies are available to download for Rs. 490 i.e. around $10 while some are available for as low as Rs. 100 ($2). You can also rent recent movies like Argo, The Hobbit in standard definition for Rs. 120 ($2.5). Also, the recent movies would cost you more than the old classics but there is no uniformity in pricing them.

You can watch these movies directly on the web or via the official Google Play Movies app on the store. The app can sync all of your media and can stream movies directly to the device. It also allows you to store these movies for offline viewing. You can get the official app from the link given here.

The availability of Google Play movies comes at a time when Apple launched their iTunes Store in India and it would be interesting to see the competition among these two giants.
