Google Chrome is the most popular browser in the world today that can be used on computers and mobile devices. It has several outstanding features that make it work faster and more secure when compared to other browsers. Although this is a solid performing software there are instances when certain issues can occur which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Google Chrome no sound issue.
What to do when Chrome does not have audio
Before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting steps listed below it’s best to restart your computer first. This action refreshes the operating system and removes any corrupt temporary data that could be causing the problem.
Check PC audio settings
The first thing you will want to do in this case is to make sure that your computer sound setting is not muted or set to low.
Right click on the speaker icon
This is found on the lower right side of the screen.
Select Open volume mixer
Set volume level to maximum for device and applications
Make sure to also check the correct output device is used.
Try to check if the Chrome no audio problem still occurs.
Disable Chrome extensions
There’s a possibility that an extension that is installed in the browser is causing the problem which is why you should try to disable all of the extensions.
Click on the three dots at the top right
Click More tool
Turn the extension switch off.
Restart the browser then check if the Chrome no sound problem still occurs.
Check Chrome sound setting
You should check if the setting to play sound from websites has been enabled.
Click on the three dots

This is located at the bottom of the window.
Click Privacy and Security
This is located on the left side of the window
Click on Site Settings
Click on Sound
This is located on the right side of the window.
- Make sure the switch is set to Allow sites to play sound. You should also make sure that no sites has been added to the Mute section.
Try checking if the Chrome audio problem still occurs.
If the problem is caused by a corrupted Chrome software then the best thing to do is to uninstall then reinstall the browser.
To uninstall Chrome
Close Google Chrome
Find Google Chrome then click uninstall.
- To delete your profile information, like bookmarks and history, check “Also delete your browsing data.”
To install Chrome
Download the installation file
Click Run or Save
- If you chose Save, double-click the downloaded file to start installing.
Try to check if the problem still occurs.
