Geeksphone Revolution Officially Launched, Priced At $300

Spanish company Geeksphone has finally made available in the market its smartphone called the Revolution. This device is quite unique since it supports two different operating systems, Firefox OS (Boot2Gecko (B2G), and Android. The company is now taking orders for the device which costs €222 or a little bit over $300.

Geeksphone Revolution

Geeksphone Revolution is not a dual booting device strictly speaking. This is because a consumer can’t just reboot the device to switch to a different operating system. This device ships running with Android 4.2.2 as a default. Switching to the Boot2Gecko environment requires flashing it which has been made easy with the built-in recovery tools. A user simply has to go to Settings – > System updates – > Install another OS.

The tricky part is switching to Android from Firefox. There’s no setting for this available yet in the menu which might be corrected on future update of the device. The company suggests following these procedures to make the switch.

  • Download the Android file:
  • Run Recovery mode (Power + Vol-, and select recovery)
  • Mark Update using adb
  • As soon as the option is selected, run on your computer the file already downloaded: adb sideload <name of>.zip
  • Just wait for the installation to finish, and Android will be restored in your device.
