Below are specific topics we’re bringing for you today:

Problem 1: Galaxy S7 SMS are out of order after resetting date and time automatically

Hello. I am having difficulties with my notifications after I changed something by mistake in date & time tab. I will receive notifications for texts and missed calls but my new message does not show on top of the text messages list.

Also, if I missed any calls it won’t show in call log. I have put date & time option back on automatically. It has started happening for about 10 hours. Phone: Samsung S7. — Abbas

Solution: Hi Abbas. Everything should be back to normal after you enable Automatic date and time back on. In this mode, your device will revert to using your network’s date and time. If the phone does not appear to notice any change, we suggest that you perform a soft reset by pressing and holding the Power and Volume Down buttons for at least 10 seconds. After you’ve rebooted the device this way, date and time should be back to its working order.

If nothing changes though, consider doing a factory reset to fix both issues. Here’s how:

  1. Create a backup of your important files such as photos, videos, contacts etc. You can use Smart Switch for this task.
  2. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S7.
  3. Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key.
  4. When the Samsung Galaxy S7 shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
  5. When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds.
  6. Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  7. Once highlighted, you may press the Power key to select it.
  8. Now highlight the option Yes — delete all user data using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.
  9. Wait until your phone is finished doing the Master Reset. Once completed, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and press the Power key.
  10. The phone will now reboot longer than usual.

Problem 2: Galaxy S7 no sound notifications for email

Hello. I just got my new S7 on the weekend (Love it) to replace my S5. For some reason the phone is not giving me notification sounds for any emails coming in. The Text notification sounds work fine, but I am not hearing my emails come in for the 3 accounts I have on the phone. I have tried restarting the phone (no luck). I am using some sounds I have downloaded from Zedge (text noise is one of them and it works fine). My issues are with my emails. Can you offer some help please? — Doug Kirkwood

Solution: Hi Doug. There are a number of things that you can do to fix this issue. We don’t know some important details about your issue such as the name of the email app, the exact sound notification settings, and the possible third party apps that may override sound notifications so we can’t be more specific. Any of the things below should help you though.

Ensure that sound notifications for the email app is set up correctly

We don’t know if you’ve checked this already but it’s a crucial troubleshooting step. Be sure to do the steps below to see if your device has sound notifications for the email app set up:

  1. Launch the Settings app.
  2. Tap Notifications.
  3. Tap ADVANCED.
  4. Look for the email app you’re using and tap it.
  5. Ensure that Allow notifications option is enabled by moving the slider to the right.
  6. If you can see a pink/red circle with an exclamation mark to the upper right, tap it and ensure that you enabled VIPs and any other accounts below it.
  7. You can do the same steps above if you’re using a third party email app.

Verify that Notifications is enabled within the email app itself

Another step that you must do, whether you’re using the pre-installed Samsung email app or any other email app, is to check if notifications is enabled within app settings. The steps on how to do this vary by app so be sure to check everything if you don’t know how to do it directly. For example, the steps for the stock email app are as follows:

  1. Launch the stock email app.
  2. Tap the three-line icon at the upper left side beside the name of your account.
  3. Tap the Settings icon (gear icon).
  4. Move the slider for Notifications to the right to enable it.
  5. Tap Notifications.
  6. Move the slider for VIPs to the right to enable it. Do the same thing for any other accounts below VIPs.

Verify that system sound notification is enabled

Another good way to ensure that your device is set up properly to make sound notification is by checking under Sounds and vibrations. If you haven’t do this yet, follow the steps below:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Sounds and vibration.
  3. Tap Notification sounds.
  4. Tap Email notifications.
  5. Move the slider for VIPs to the right to enable it. Do the same thing for any other accounts below VIPs.

Configure third party app that controls sound notification of your phone

Zedge can override the default sound settings in your phone so if you’re using it, make sure that you configure it properly to allow sound notifications for your emails. For Zedge, this means doing the following:

  1. Open Zedge app.
  2. Tap the Menu icon.
  3. Tap Notifications.
  4. Select the tone you want and tap middle icon at the bottom.
  5. Tap Set notification to make the tone the current sound notification for your device.

Clear email app’s cache and data

If all the steps above won’t help, consider wiping the email app’s cache and data to see what happens. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Settings menu either through your notification shade (drop-down) or through the Settings app in your app drawer.
  2. Navigate down to “Apps”. This may be renamed to something like Applications or Application Manager in OEM skinned versions of Android 6 or 7.
  3. Once in there, look for the application and tap it.
  4. You’ll now see a list of stuff that gives you information about the app, including Storage, Permissions, Memory Use, and more.
  5. These are all clickable items. You’ll want to click on Storage.
  6. You should now clearly see the Clear Cache and Clear Data buttons for the application.

Problem 3: Galaxy S7 can’t add email account, keeps saying “checking incoming server settings”

My email just stopped working last night. I’ve restarted my device, turned it off for a few hours, and removed my email account. I tried to re-enter my email information but it keeps saying “checking incoming server settings.” I tried manually entering my email information, but it says that my login and password are incorrect (they’re not) or POP/IMAP aren’t enabled (they are). I’m at a loss. I have no idea what to do next. Any suggestions would be wonderful! — Heather

Solution: Hi Heather. We’ve seen this issue before from users with email accounts that have 2-step verification or similar feature enabled. Make sure that you turn off 2-step verification and all other similar security layers before adding your account in the email app. For example, if you’re having trouble adding a Microsoft (Hotmail, Outlook, Live) in your email app, do the steps below on how to deactivate it:

  1. Follow this link to access your Security settings on your Microsoft Account and sign in with your credentials. (Alternatively, you can also sign in to your Outlook.com account, click your name in the top-right corner, and click Account settings.)
  2. Click the Turn off two-step verification link.
  3. Follow the rest of the instructions.

You may also need to turn off other security features like identity verification app and/or disable app passwords.

Once you’ve added your email account successfully to the email app, make sure to turn the security features back on.

Hey. I’m just a kid but honestly scared now because my Samsung Galaxy S7 has given me the problem of “unfortunately themes has stopped.” And soon, after experiencing this my phone goes through the samsung powering on sequence even when it hadnt been powered off.
