Hello. I got the Power Sharing Message. I have done the troubleshooting from this website. I restarted the phone in safe mode, now it is slowly loading the power. But i can’t uninstall the “power Sharing” app because it doesn’t exists in the “all Applications” Menu. What can i do? Please help fast. Greetings. — Alexej
Solution: Hi Alexej. If you can’t find Power Sharing app in your phone, that means that something other than the actual app may be the trigger for the pop up message. Power Sharing is a first party app from Samsung so it’s logical so begin with all Samsung-related apps you have. We don’t have a list of what Samsung apps look or what their names are on your phone so it’s up to you to look for them. Once you have identified them, make sure to Force Stop or Disable them. You can start disabling these apps if you have them on your phone:
- Samsung account
- Samsung Apps
This solution involves using common sense. For example, if you use the stock Samsung keyboard, leaving it untouched is a must. Try to be picky with what Samsung app you want to disable and make sure to observe how the phone works afterwards for glitches that may stem from doing this solution.
Thanks. My Galaxy decided to not charge this morning and had a steady blue light. I did as you suggested and also smacked the phone on my palm about 3 times as suggested by someone else. I plugged it back in with the battery and it is now charging. I guess it didn’t like being run down to zero which I rarely do. Thank you. You have NO idea how much aggravation you helped avoid.

My S4 suddenly stopped holding charge like it normally does. Usually it is amazing at holding it- but suddenly stopped.
It also charges VERY slow. In 30 minutes i get 2% more charge.
The charger i use is original to Samsung. I’ve tried 2 different chargers, 2 different batteries and still nothing!
I have battery doctor apps on my phone, but they don’t work at all!
I took off the big apps that ate at my battery power and deleted all the unimportant things from my phone. I really need this phone to hold charge! All my cables are perfectly fine as well as the batteries. I checked the port in my phone to connect charger to phone and it’s clean. Cleaned out the golden prongs where the battery goes and still nothing.
I went to the battery on my phone and there wasn’t any signs of anything eating the battery so fast. — Kassandra
Solution: Hi Kassandra. The problem might lie on the phone itself so you should do some troubleshooting to identify it. Most of the time, a high number of running apps can prevent the phone from charging normally. This sometimes give the impression that the phone isn’t charging, or in your case, charging very slow.
Below are the things that you can try to help you narrow down the possible reasons for the problem:
Charging while in safe mode
We know that you have uninstalled some of your least-used apps but if the problem remains, the next logical step is to restart the phone in safe mode. This special runtime environment prevents third party apps from running. If any of them is the cause of this trouble, the phone should charge without problems. Here are the steps to boot your S4 in safe mode:
- Press and hold the Power button.
- Once the Samsung Galaxy S4 logo appears on the screen (assuming the phone responds to Power key press), release the Power button.
- As soon as you release the Power button, press and hold the Volume Down key.
- Continue holding the Volume Down key until the phone has completed the reboot process.
- If you can read ‘Safe Mode’ at the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume Down key. Otherwise, repeat the process until you can boot the phone to Safe Mode.
Charge in power saving mode
The general aim of power saving mode feature is to allow the phone run with the least possible apps to extend battery power. It’s not intended as a troubleshooting method but in your case, it may prove a good workaround if you don’t want to do more drastic solutions at this time. Power saving mode feature works by limiting the processor’s performance, dimming the screen brightness, and disabling any vibration settings like haptic feedback. To configure your phone to power saving mode, simply follow these steps:
- Go to Settings.
- Tap on My Device.
- Scroll down to Power Saving option and tap it.
- Tap the switch to enable Power Saving Mode.
Perform a factory reset
If the problem persists after doing the two solutions above, consider performing a factory reset. You want to do this to address possible firmware glitch that may be affecting the battery charging process. To do a factory reset, just follow these steps:
- Turn the phone off completely. (Remove the battery and place it back in)
- Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons.
- Release the Power button when the phone vibrates but continue holding on to the Volume Up and Home buttons.
- When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release both the Home and Volume Up buttons.
- Using the Volume Down key, highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
- Press the Power button to select it.
- Using the Volume Down button again, highlight ‘delete all user data.’
- Press the Power key to select it.
- Once the reset is complete, choose ‘Reboot system now.’
- Press the Power button to restart the phone.
Important: To know if factory reset changes something, make sure not to install any app before you charge. Let the phone run for a full day, drain the battery completely (0%), and charge. If the charging process goes back to normal, that’s an indicator that the previous firmware version may have been corrupted, or any of the third party apps (which may have ignored safe mode) is the culprit.
I have a battery that I know is charged to 100%. However the power button on the phone does not appear to be functioning. I noticed it this morning. I’d push the power button, but nothing would happen. I had to use the home button to get the screen to light up. What can I do? — Josh
Solution: Hi Josh. It’s not unheard of that a Galaxy S4’s power button (hardware) cease to work normally. While rare, a power button going bad is possible. If your phone does not respond, or does not seem to do anything when you press the button, chances are you have a hardware issue at hand. Unfortunately, we don’t offer hardware troubleshooting or teardown instructions so try to use online resources if you want to do it yourself.
Better still, simply bring the phone to a local shop so the power button can be checked and replaced if possible.
Ok, my Android was having issues turning off automatically, so I YouTubed a fix that involved removing the power button yada yada. It worked by holding the Volume Down key and Power button to turn on though. Which was fine. work fine for months.
Anyway I asked my friend to hook it to a charger for me to turn on and he hit up button. It was resetting or whatever (and I know) but i tried to stop the process before my phone was erased or what not, (dumb i know but desperate). Anyway, the Volume Down key and Home button doesn’t work and the phone just charges. Is it garbage for sure now? — Corey
Solution: Hi Corey. There is no exact way to know if the issue is hardware in nature or not unless the phone is checked physically. Since the two important buttons (Volume Down and Home) are no longer functional, you can’t also check if the phone still boots up to other modes, which is the best thing that you can do at this point. If you want to know if the phone can still be saved, bring it to a local shop and have it checked.
After purchasing a new battery for my Samsung S4 last week, it continued to run down incredibly quickly, even with screen brightness turned down, wifi and mobile data turned off, etc.
The last time it switched off was a few days ago. It didn’t turn back on, even when plugged into a charger. I’ve tried everything advised on this article:
However, when I press the volume up + home + power on button, I get the reboot screen on the samsung galaxy s4 mini screen with “recovery booting” written in dark blue at the top left, but this screen only stays visible for around ten seconds, fifteen max, then goes straight back to a black screen. It then keeps automatically turning on but I only get the normal samsung galaxy starting up screen without the blue reboot sign, then it switches off again and keeps doing this. I don’t even get past the samsung start up screen. Any ideas please? — Aiden
Solution: Hi Aiden. It’s good that you tried a different battery before contacting us as doing so would be one of our suggestions. Since you are unable to boot the phone in recovery mode, try booting to download mode instead. While you can only do limited things in this mode, it may still work towards resolution. If you haven’t tried booting in download mode before, here’s how:
- Turn off the phone completely.
- Press and hold Volume Down, Home, and Power buttons at the same time.
- Release the buttons when the “Warning!” message is displayed.
- Press Volume Up key to confirm that you want to boot in download mode.
In download mode, you can flash (install) a new ROM or a custom ROM to your phone. If the phone continues to restart on its own, try booting in download mode and flash a stock ROM for this device. You can Google the exact steps if you don’t know how to do it.
My phone would get really hot, (more than usual). Then the screen would go white/gray. I tried holding the power key off until it restarted but it came back on the same way. I would have to remove the battery and let everything cool down. I put it back together and turned it on and all was fine . A few days and it did it again. After the last episode the screen is darker and the longer I use it I have ghost images like burned in. I turn it off for the night or don’t use it for a few hours and it get a little brighter and the ghost images are not as pronounced until I use it again for awhile. It does this still in safe mode.
Since the screen got this way I have not had another episode of the high heat and screen whiteout.
I called a phone repair place and he said with the heating up I probably had a “board” problem and should get a new phone.
I have had this one about 1.5 yrs. Everything else works fine. I don’t play games on it. Facebook, YouTube, etc. Some trucking apps. Have not downloaded a new app in quite awhile.

Solution: Hi Troy. The technician you talked to may be right. A “board” issue in this case may range from having a component or set of components malfunctioning, to a shorted display assembly. There’s really no way to know exactly what the hardware problem is unless you let someone check the device.
Overheating can sometimes be due to software issues so it’s good if you can do a factory reset to check that. If nothing changes after a master reset, the problem is most likely hardware in nature. You may be better off getting a new phone than having the logic board or display assembly replaced given the age of the phone.
