Dell seeding Android 5.1 to the Venue 8 7840 tablet

Dell Venue 8Previous heir to the world’s slimmest tablet crown (dethroned by the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 recently), the Dell Venue 8 7840 tablet is now the recipient of the latest Android 5.1 update from the company.

This has taken quite a few of us by surprise as one doesn’t expect frequent updates from a relatively inactive Android OEM like Dell. However, the company has shown us that sending out an update is not a major challenge and we hope this inspires other manufacturers to do the same.

Part of the reason why Dell has managed to send out the Android 5.1 update before most other manufacturers is due to its stock Android interface with no additional customization being made to the system. This is something that Motorola does very well with its smartphones and has served them very well in the mobile industry so far.

In addition to introducing stock Android related changes, the update also brings some modifications to the camera of the tablet, which was one of the key selling points for the device.
