Nintendo Wii U to Launch on November 18th

There has been rumors going on about the official release date of Wii U release, which was rumored to be November 18. This date was leaked by game accessory maker PDP at the GameStop Manager conference.

At the conference, PDP was displaying their latest and greatest, when all of a sudden, PDP supposedly claimed that their merchandise would be releasing ahead of the Wii U’s November 18 release. So, that is how the news really came out. However, PDP they changed the subject very quickly once they realized what they said.

PDP Community Manager Candace Hinton replied to the report telling that “at this time we can’t confirm Nintendo’s dates and we don’t know exactly what was heard, but we simply do not know that this point. We are launching accessories, but the date for the accessories doesn’t mean a confirmation on the hardware. If you seek confirmation on the date that is something that is going to need to go specifically though Nintendo, but we can’t confirm or deny dates on any of their hardware.”

Nintendo plans to reveal information about the Wii U’s launch at an event that is taking place in New York City on September 13. The November 18 release date was highly speculated as the release date is Sunday that is just before the Black Friday.

PDP’s Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing, William Otte released an official statement regarding the rumors going around about the Nintendo Wii U’s release date and it went on something like this.

“Performance Designed Products (“PDP”) is aware of recent rumors posted alleging that PDP inadvertently “leaked” the official release date of the upcoming Nintendo Wii U gaming system during a trade presentation earlier today. To be clear, PDP has no knowledge whatsoever of the official Wii U release date, and thus it is not possible for PDP to have “leaked” this information.

During PDP’s presentation of our fall line of gaming accessories to customers at a trade event, we stated that our Wii U accessories would be available at launch. Much later in the presentation, we showed our Epic Mickey 2: The Power of 2 accessories for the Wii and confirmed that the Wii accessories will be in stores by the game’s November 18 launch date. Connecting the Wii U launch and Epic Mickey 2 peripheral launch dates is inaccurate and false. PDP has no knowledge whether this is the official Wii U release date or not.”

While clearly denying the rumors, there is not much that can be said after reading this statement. However, customers can speculate about November 18 being the real release date of Wii U’s release because all the facts point that it is going to be released on November 18.

However, how clear and certain these rumors are, cannot be confirmed at the moment because although PDP did released this rumor and created a hype about the release of Wii U, but since it is denying having any knowledge of Wii U’s launch only means that they just might be trying to save themselves for leaking information.

Lenovo’s K860 Phablet Gets Priced in China

Lenovo has been making rounds for a while now and almost everyone knows about the specs of its five incher. However, the secret was its price, which was not in any rumors or in any statements by Lenovo. So, we all caught a break when the Chinese manufacturer finally came clean and told its customers, not only about the price but released the phablet as well.

The phablet was released 2 days ago on August 28 for a price of 2188 Yuan, which is about $344. However, getting one of these phablets is going to be somewhat difficult as only 2,000 of these quad core Exynos powered  beasts were released on the first day. However, that does not mean that a wide release is far.

The quad core Lenovo K860 looks as if it is aiming to be one of the main competitors to Xiaomi’s recently announced MI-2.

The Lenovo K860 started its life with leaks, which branded it as LePhone, which is a moniker the Chinese company has extensively used for in order to designate its devices. Later on, we heard that it might be launched as the IdeaPhone K860, which is also similar to the names, which the company uses for tablets and laptops.

Nonetheless, it is released now and it is priced at 2188 Yuan in China, which is slightly less than the rumored price, which was 2199 Yuan. The question now is that, what do you get for $344? The Lenovo K860 comes with a 5 inch LCD with 720p HD touch screen, powered by a quad core Samsung Exynos 4412 processor, which is the same one used in Samsung Galaxy S III. For memory, it is 1 GB RAM and for camera’s, which by the way it has two of them, one rear and one facing the front. The rear camera is a massive 8 MP, and the front camera is 2 MP. With a 2250 mAh battery, this phablet runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

If you think that is cool, then you should wait to do a comparison with the Xiaomi MI-2, which has somewhat the same features as the Lenovo K860. However, the Xiaomi MI-2 comes with a smaller 4.3 inch touch screen. This makes the Lenovo K860 the first real competitor to that device and since the Lenovo K860 costs $40 less than the Xiaomi MI-2 – things might just get serious. Since, most people like to have bigger touch screens, so obviously, those people will prefer the Lenovo K860 to the Xiaomi MI-2 for sure.

Although, the availability of the Lenovo K860 outside of China is not yet known because it is only available in China right now, and that too in limited numbers. So, people outside of China would just have to wait for the official word about when the Lenovo K860 will be releasing worldwide, specifically for the U.S. consumers. However, the release date will be soon because with a device like Lenovo K860 and a competitor just around the corner, I do not think that Lenovo is going to wait really long.

Apple Wants to Ban 8 of Samsung’s Smart Phones in The U.S.

We all are aware of the Apple vs. Samsung, and we also know the verdict on the recent case. However, Samsung will not give up that easily because the entire U.S. market is at stake here and Samsung cannot let Apple have all of this pie.

The tension between the two tech giants is far from over at the moment because Apple is now planning to ban Samsung’s devices in the U.S., which is possible and very likely to happen, given the recent win of Apple against Samsung.

For now, Apple has listed 8 Samsung devices that it wants to Ban in the U.S.

These devices include, Galaxy S 4G, AT&T Galaxy S2, Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, Galaxy S2 T-Mobile, Galaxy S2 Epic 4G, Galaxy S Showcase, Droid Charge and Galaxy Prevail.

Apple published this list after a federal jury in San Jose, Calif, decided that Samsung has “Willfully” infringed on five of seven Apple patents. This decision lead to Apple being awarded approximately $1.05 billion in damages and also cleared the way for Apple to take further action against Samsung.

The jury found that Samsung has infringed on five of seven Apple patents including the iconography of iPhone, its “pinch-and-zoom” feature, and the “bounce-back” effect on screen while scrolling and lastly, the double tap zoom feature.

Samsung was found guilty on infringement with its 28 different devices. However, the list of these devices got slim, as most of those devices are not being sold in the United States any more. So the list of potentially banned handsets is now down to 8 handsets only.

In the court filing, Apple said, “it has tailored this list to address a portion of the immediate, ongoing irreparable harm that Apple is suffering.” This brought down the list of 28 to just 8 of Samsung’s devices, which are currently available in the market.

Following the Friday ruling against Samsung, Samsung issued a statement where it referred to the ruling as “a loss for the American consumers.” Furthermore, the statement also said that this ruling would “lead to fewer choices, less innovation, and potentially higher prices.”

The statement went about saying that, “Consumers have the right to choices, and they know what they are buying when they purchase Samsung products. This is not the final word in this case or in battles being waged in courts and tribunals around the world, some of which have already rejected many of Apple’s claims. Samsung will continue to innovate and offer choices for the consumer.”

The recent victory gave Apple’s stock an all time high of $682.07 per share on Monday morning, whereas shares of Samsung electronics fell 7.5% in the market.

So it is safe to assume that the battle between two tech giants is far from over right now and Samsung will be thinking of other ways to get back to Apple for the loss it suffered both in the court room and in the stock market. Leave us a comment and let us know about your thoughts, opinions regarding the ongoing battle and especially about Samsung’s statement.

BlackBerry 10 to use S4 Processor

The new BlackBerry is all set to be released in 2013 with a number of features that might just bring BlackBerry to the top again. The new range will be running on v10 of the Research in Motion’s in-house operating systems.

It has been rumored that the first Research In Motion (RIM) to run the BlackBerry 10 is going to be powered by the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 Pro (MSM8960T) processor. The Qualcomm chip itself, is a dual core ARM based CPU which has a clock speed of about 1.5GHz and an Adreno of about 320 GPU which supports HD resolution and the option of multi-tasking. It is expected that the GPU would be much faster than the Aderno 225 GPU, which currently used by the Samsung Galaxy S3 (USversion) and also in the HTC One X. The Qualcomm Snapdragon chips also bundle Long Term Evolution (LTM) capabilities.

According to the Wall Street Journal report the RIM chief executive, Thorsten Heins, has said that the finishing line is near and new the RIM Smartphone will roll out in 2013.

Andrew McLeod, the managing director of RIM’s operations in Canada says that, “We’re in the process of finalizing the software.” He further adds that, “It was at a point where we had a confidence level that we could really demonstrate the validity of the products and software. People were excited with what they saw.” This was when the two beta versions were shown.

The two devices would be full touch screen devices and also a hybrid (which has both a physical keyboard and the touch system). It is also confirmed that the final version will include all three in the categories.

RIM has suffered considerably over the years globally since the rise of the Apple’s iPhone and the introduction of Android phones by Google, which is used by big shot companies like HTC and Samsung.

The recent figures collected by Gartner Inc. show that the second quarter of this year has shown RIM dropped 50% of its already little 11.7 market share from the year 2011 to clock in at 5.2% for the Q2. It is crucial that the next BB10 proves to be a success for its company for its survival in the long run.

The manufacturers have also started taking the user feedback more seriously as it is evident from the display screen. In a recent note written on the BlackBerry’s Developer blog it has been confirmed that the screen resolution of the smart phone has indeed been increased. The full screen resolution in touch screen is 1280×720 (16:9) whereas for the hybrid it is 720×720 (1:1).

The note states that, “The fact that we are standardizing on two main screen resolutions going forward has been largely influenced by you, our community of developers. We are committed to making the BlackBerry platform the absolute best-and easiest- application platform for you to develop on in order to innovate and grow your business.”

Only time will tell whether the BlackBerry proves to be a success and reclaim its lost market share through its new range.

Will Verizon be launching LG Intuition on September 15th?

In this amidst crowd of Smart phones, we have another stiff competition at our hands in this September. Who is it this time? Samsung? HTC? It’s neither Samsung nor HTC; in fact it’s none other than LG, joining the big league of Smartphone companies like Samsung and Apple, to be releasing their phone next month.

The LG Optimus VU is coming to Verizon finally. This isn’t something new for the daily techno buffs since we’ve been hearing this news from a very long time and it’s about time the phone comes out. However, there is something new from the daily news, the carrier, as Verizon plans on changing the name of the phone which would soon appear on the line named as the LG Intuition.

There have been leaked pictures seen of the phone over the internet, which we suspect aren’t the real ones however we’ll still give you a quick review about it. The press render seems to show the all new Optimus VU/ Intuition with the collaboration of Verizon. The pictures are pretty much similar to the live pictures which have already been seen by most of us.

Another interesting thing about the phone is that it gives us clues towards the date when the phone is likely to be released. The date on the home screen appears to be the September 15th at 2pm and the day listed as Saturday, however, we know all such dates and clues are mere rumors and there’s nothing certain here.

So is LG really introducing a new phone on the September 15th? We say there are likely any chances that they are and the news should be treated more of a rumor rather than news. However, we daresay if for instance this is not a rumor and is true then LG has some really tough competition ahead with Apple releasing the iPhone 5 the very month and Nokia working on a windows phone to be released in the same month, LG might just be overshadowed.

Whether it’s a rumor or no rumor LG has indeed presented great phones in the market and there Optimus line is indeed very successful however lately there has been a spark missing with LG and in order to compete with those mighty competitors LG really needs to step up its game and bring something new, innovative and advanced to the table so that they could tackle such heavy competition and do not emerge out of the battle as a wounded and crippled soldier.

If however this is just a mere rumor (which we’re assuming it is) LG really needs to come up with something by the end of this year to tackle the emerging and strong smart phone brands in the market. So we say LG come up with something first before the company stays too behind and lose its valued customers. Rumor or no rumor LG really needs to step up its game and show that it is a company to be taken seriously so we hope we see a new LG phone in the near future which would blow us all away.

Lenovo takes on Apple in China

Just when we thought there were just a handful of smart phone companies out there we were proved wrong. A company with a reliable name and trust has emerged and has tried its luck in the smart phone business as well; it is none other than the Chinese company Lenovo. It really is an achievement for Lenovo, but Lenovo had to step in this smart phone industry sooner or later to keep up in the technological race as almost all the laptop/PC manufacturers are inclined to follow the main stream of smart phone manufacturing.

Lenovo is just a new horse in the race but company has already shown its competitors their true power. Lenovo has made tremendous leap in the China mobile market and was at 7th place in the first quarter and now has jumped to 2nd place. Lenovo has shown great results in a matter of mere months and it really leaves a lot to do for the competitors in the market.

In China for the first time ever the shipment of smart phones increased to about 87 million units. Samsung contributed about 44.4 million units whereas; Lenovo captured about 11% of all the Chinese smart phones in just the second quarter.

A Beijing based analyst with the IDC Research said, “Lenovo had a huge second-quarter due to increased volumes through operators, and a continued push into retail, leveraging on its PC retail stores and partnerships.”

Let’s not forget that Lenovo had to beat big hotshot companies like Samsung, Apple, HTC and ZTE to get its place in the market. Lenovo has from time and time again faced resistance from all the companies but it still emerged as a victor.

Due to the anticipated iPhone 5 being released in September and increased competition from HTC, Samsung and the other entire smart phone companies in China, Apples position considerably dropped. The sales decreased from 19% to about 10% and due to this the company’s position dropped to 4th (which is below Lenovo).

We say Apple should really be on the lookout from now on since giving such a sharp blow to its archenemy, Samsung and an indirect blow to Google mind is a very dangerous move since Google might just make Apple suffer through companies like Lenovo and make Apple play the dirty game.

Apple in the recent past has emerged as a victor and with its recent success in the courtrooms, many think of it as an invincible company however it gives a shock to critics and blogger that a new company like Lenovo provides great competition and surpasses it on the China Mobile Market list.

We believe with the iPhone 5 coming out Apple must have something really big in its sleeve to not to be alarmed by Lenovo’s such short term success, however, we must warn Apple that success isn’t forever and the tables can turn around pretty soon, so Apple has to be very careful and focused while taking each and every step because there’s a new sheriff in town and they’re here to stay, so we say watch out.

Apple wins the war!

The on going battle between Apple and Samsung finally comes to a halt with Apple emerging as the victor. It has been several months that this on going battle has been taking place between the two most powerful smartphones and tablets companies in the world.

The jury showed Samsung the red signal taking full side with Apple and forcing Samsung to pay up a whopping amount of about $1 billion. According to Apple Samsung had copied the designs of its iPhones and iPads in the galaxy S3 and the galaxy tabs. Apple said that Samsung copied the rounded corners on its devices as well as the user interface to zoom in the gadgets. The rubber band feature offered in Apple’s products have also been copied by Samsung says Apple.

Samsung isn’t the first company Apple has taken to the courts, in the past big companies like Motorola and HTC have also been driven to court by Apple. Critics have different views about this verdict and many see this as an attempt to attack Google directly by Apple.

According to a statement by Apple, “The lawsuits between Apple and Samsung were much more than patents or money. They were about values…”

While Apple viewed this battle as solely the protection of their rights and values, Samsung had another thing in mind. According to Samsung, “Today’s verdict should not be viewed as a win for Apple but as a loss for the American consumer. It will lead to fewer choices, less innovation and potentially higher prices.”

While it is true that the immediate consequences of such heavy charged lawsuits and court proceedings will result in a loss for the consumer, but according to Apple innovation comes with a price.

This on going battle has not yet come to its final conclusion as yet as there is a further proceeding to be held in 2014 between these two companies. However, given the current circumstances it seems not much is on Samsung’s side with all those cases Samsung itself did on Apple have been proved wrong and in favor of Apple. Where is Samsung really heading now?

There is no doubt that apart from the customers, the shareholders and investors of both companies have faced huge financial crisis during this trial and both sides have lost and gained but in the end Apple emerged victorious.

With Apple getting more than 1 billion dollars from Samsung from the verdict, the prices of the company’s shares has also risen considerably with Apples shares being the most popular shares in the market.

It is indeed a fact that Apple has emerged victorious and as a hero from this battle but we think how long is this really going to last? Has Apple really made the right decision with protecting its right or according to a few critics they’re just being drama queens about it. Whatever the reason maybe cheers to Apple for succeeding however success isn’t forever and with Apple taking so many companies to court we say watch out!

Samsung teases “Something Smart Is Coming” at IFA – Possible Windows 8 Device

Most tech freaks have been anxiously awaiting for the IFA, which is going to be held at the end of this month and with not much time left to this event, Samsung launched one of its teasers – an advertisement actually, which shows glimpse of an laptop. However, some people say that it is going to be handheld device. But, I disagree because the advertisement or teaser if you prefer to call it that, did showed navigation keys with Fn key signs on it that enabled “End.”

However, both of these scenarios can be true because Samsung is not bound to feature just one device at this event. So, people who saw a tablet can be true as well as people like me, who saw a laptop in this teaser.

The group of people that supports that it is going to be a tablet, because Samsung is planning to give its users more mobile device rather than devices that are heavy and hard to carry around. However, yet again I would have to disagree; because the group of people who think that it is going to be a laptop, – the group that I belong to at the moment – believes it is a laptop because last year at the IFA event, Samsung unveiled it is SALTE PC Series 7. In addition, this year, there are chances that Samsung will be featuring something that features the Windows 8 operating system in full swing on their latest laptop. So, it is very safe to say that it is going to be something similar.

Those of you who do not know about Samsung SLATE PC Series, here is a short recap for you guys. Samsung designed its SLATE PC series for users who needed maximized productivity in a mobile working environment. The SLATE PC series was running on Windows 7 OS. It was a mere 12.5mm thick and its weight was just 850g. With Windows Core i5 processor, this laptop not only ensured performance, but also ensured longer working hours with its battery that gave 7 hours backup with one charge. This was the ultimate ultra book that was ultra portable and ultra versatile. Moreover, when in office, this laptop could be transformed into a full PC with its docking station.

If Samsung is planning to launch a tablet, then it just might be a laptop killer. According to CIO Journal Blog, the new SLATE Series PC by Samsung is going to be a laptop killer thanks to its docking features.

How true the statements are going to be, we are all going to find out that sooner than we think. Meanwhile, at the anticipation rises, all of us are helplessly left to rumors and news and teasers such as the one Samsung recently released, and let our imaginations run wild. No one can say for sure what the teaser is all about, but as the hints indicate and as history have told us, it can be a tablet or a laptop, or yet another SLATE series powered by the coming Windows 8 for ultimate user experience.

Samsung Defeat a ‘Back to the Drawing Board’ Moment

Well, the ongoing battles between Samsung and Apple are fast becoming the stuff of legend and one thing we know for sure, Apple would gladly wipe all competition from the market, so consumers worldwide wait with bated breath on the outcome of each courtroom verdict on the epic battle between these so called giants.

So, today’s verdict, which found in Apple’s favor, awarding them $1.05B in damages is not only a financial blow to Samsung but one which will impact on how it innovates and designs in future.

The ruling found that Samsung had copied several key design elements of the iPhone and iPad and this will surely trickle down to not only how Samsung’s designers work in future, but also several other market leaders.

If the ruling is anything to go on, Samsung will have to do better than draw its inspiration from nature when designing and developing its next range of Android smartphone.  The jury’s final decision was a signal of how similar products really are, at least in the minds of the consumer.  As a result, skeptics believe Samsung will really have to go back to the drawing board and institute a radical reinvention of its smart phones.

Charles Forester, an analyst at Forrester said, “Samsung needs to go back to the drawing board from a design aspect.”

Not only Samsung will be reeling from this latest verdict, many other manufacturers will now be sweating over what this means for not only their products available on shelves at the moment, but many others in the pipeline.  Many will be reconsidering the designs, look and feel of their products.

This latest ruling is so damaging to other manufacturers as it affirms the patents covering crucial elements of the smartphone experience, not only in the look and feel of the device but down to individual features such as pinch-to-zoom on photos to the ‘rubber band’ effect when scrolling on the menu, features many users now take for granted on many smart phones.

The challenge will now be for Samsung and other manufacturers to find new approaches to some of these core functions and sell them to consumers as superior features, whilst at the same time playing catch up to devices and features they already have sold in their devices which have found to have copied Apple.

One thing is for sure, the Korean manufacturer will appeal the latest outcome, and there is every chance the verdict will be over-turned.  In the meantime, they will be working behind the scenes to ensure they are best placed to retain their place in the smartphone market, whatever the outcome.

Samsung undoubtedly has redesigns ready, said Maribel Lopez, an analyst at Lopez Research, but it will still take time to roll them out into new products.

“You can change the shell easily, but there is only so much reskinning that can be done, I’m convinced it doesn’t make sense to throw out the Android UI for a Samsung custom one,” Lopez said.

Michael Gartenberg of Gartner said, “If Apple patents are upheld long term, it will force the industry toward innovation and differentiation, that’s not a bad thing for the market and for consumers.”

Facebook’s previous rating over the Google Play app store was 3.7 with a number of complaints written by the users and bad reviews from critics. The App speeds up the process of loading images, links and timelines over your phone with a number of other new and improved features. If you want to create events over Facebook or even share them then you’ll be glad to know that Facebook has provided a number of options for you to that and made your work more easy than before.

This isn’t all folks Facebook has also added a number of features to make the App more active and fast and now the days where you waited for your pictures to upload for 15 minutes are gone. Facebook with a number of add on features has given its users the option to upload pictures in a much faster rate. Also the option of sharing pictures has also been made a lot easier and user friendly.

Facebook has just not restricted this change to its app but has also worked on the Facebook messenger which is now faster and now has a number of options plus the advanced emoji setting which lets you and your friends view the funny emoticons over Facebook. These emoji’s can now easily be added to your messages as well and the whole Facebook messenger chat layout has also changed making it a lot easier to understand and comprehend.

Facebook’s new app has been released only this week and already it is being appreciated widely with all the users. We think that the app rating might just increase from the 3.7 to a solid 4.2 if it functions properly. The app still has a long way to go but for Facebook it is just a start and hopefully if it has new and better features than the Google+ then we say it would be a win win situation for Facebook. Has Facebook really changed with its new and improved features or is it just a cover up? Only time will tell.
