Android Still On Top In Latest Mobile Mix, RIM Not As Dead As We Thought?

Millennial Media, the largest independent mobile ad platform in the world, publishes a monthly report called Mobile Mix.  The Mobile Mix report gives a more accurate snapshot of the state of the mobile device industry because Millennial Media uses actual devices on network as opposed to shipping vs sales vs activations.  Millennial Media’s ad network serves up over 30 billion impressions per month and the data in the Mobile Mix report is measured by devices/OS touching their network.

Much more after the break

Android as an operating system captured 53% of the device market almost double the 28% iOS did last month.  RIM accounted for 16% of the device market.  What’s shocking though is in the latest Mobile Mix report, RIM’s Blackberry Curve came in 2nd and their Blackberry Bold 2 came in 6th. In the device portion, Apple’s iPhone came in first place.  The HTC Evo, Samsung Nexus S, Motorola Droid X, LG Optimus V, Motorola Droid 2, Huawei Ascend and HTC Droid Incredible rounded out the top 10.

It’s interesting to note that the LG Optimus V and the Huawei Ascend are both pre-paid Android devices. Samsung ranked 2nd among device manufacturers for the 3rd month straight, behind Apple.  Overall Android accounted for 16 of the top 20 devices in Millennial Media’s report.
