Alcatal Bares One Touch Idol, The “Lightest Smartphone In Its Category”

Alcatel is bent on getting some attention with the new products that it is releasing. The China-based company just announced several new mobile devices, including the One Touch Idol Ultra, a handset that it is dubbing as the “world’s thinnest smartphone yet.”

Joining these new offerings is a thicker version of the One Touch Idol Ultra, called the One Touch Idol. The One Touch Idol, for its part, is “the lightest smartphone in its category,” according to Alcatel. It tips the scale at 110 grams.

Like the One Touch Idol Ultra, the One Touch Idol also sports a 4.7-inch display. Said screen is a qHD IPS display with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels.

It also runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and comes with two cameras. The main one has an 8-megapixel camera whereas the web cam has a 2-megapixel sensor. This web cam, it bears noting, has a slightly better image sensor than what Alcatel included in the One Touch Idol Ultra, which only sports a 1.3-megapixel image sensor. Meanwhile, its design features a “premium brushed metallic finish.” Its product image reveals that the smartphone comes in various colors, including yellow, red, black, and white.

Android Authority surmises that the smartphone could be made available in the United States by at least one wireless operator.

By comparison, the thinnest smartphone comes with a Super AMOLED Pentile display with a 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor , 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage capacity, and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Alcatel claims that both the One Touch Idol and the One Touch Idol Ultra smartphones mark a “breakthrough in technology.” Alain Lejeune, Head of Research and Development for the product line says, “We’ve pushed the barriers on design, resulting in devices that offer the perfect balance between ultra-slim form factor, large display, outstanding performance, and rich user experience, while keeping the devices affordably priced to consumers.”
