Samsung Galaxy S6 Not Sending Or Receiving Text Messages Issue & Other Related Problems

S6 Not Sending Or Receiving Text Messages

Problem: I recently updated my Galaxy Samsung S6 after continuously receiving the notification for the “marshmallow” 6.0 – 6.0.1 version. Since I have done this, however, my device has become a lot slower and I can neither send, nor receive text messages. This is a huge inconvenience, since I maintain a very busy schedule with my full time job. Please help!

Solution: Regarding the sending and receiving of text messages the first thing you should do is to check your account for any issues concerning this matter. You can contact your service provider regarding this and ask if you have been barred from sending or receiving messages. Once you have made sure that the account doesn’t have any problems then the next step is to check the signal status of the device. Is your phone getting a good signal from the network? Try moving to different locations and see if you can send or receive a text message.

Another possible reason why this issue is happening is because of an app you downloaded. To check if this is the case try starting your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are prevented from running. If you are able to send and receive a text message in this mode then the issue could be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

One final troubleshooting step you should consider is a factory reset. This will also resolve the slow issue that your are experiencing with the device. Just make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset as this will be erased in the process.

S6 Not Getting Text Message From One Contact

Problem: I am having a problem receiving a text from ONLY one of my contacts. She can receive the texts that I send her. I have tried deleting her as a contact and re entering her name and phone number. I have tried clear cache and soft restart. Feeling frustrated. Can you please help?

Solution: For this kind of issue the most likely cause is that the particular number has been placed in the spam list.

To check if the number has been placed in the Spam list

  • From the Home screen, tap Messages.
  • Tap MORE.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Select the Spam filter check box.
  • Tap Manage spam numbers.

To delete the number from the Spam list

  • From the Home screen, tap Messages.
  • Tap MORE.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Select the Spam filter check box.
  • Tap Manage spam numbers.
  • Tap the minus sign next to the phone number.
  • Tap the back arrow.

S6 Keeps Losing Text Alert Sounds

Problem: I keep losing my text alert sounds. Since August 10th I have completely reset my Samsung Galaxy S6 4 times back to factory settings. My notification sounds work for a while but then there are no sounds for texts or any notifications. My volume controls are all at the max. The settings are on. I reset my phone on August 26th and everything worked fine. Last night the notification sounds no longer work again. What can I do?

Solution: Try checking first if an app you installed in your phone is causing the issue. To do this you need to start the phone in Safe Mode then observe if the issue occurs in this mode. While your phone is operating in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. If the issue doesn’t occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the issue still occurs even in Safe Mode then backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install anything in your device yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then you should consider manually flashing your phone software with its updated stock firmware. Instructions on how to flash your device can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

S6 No Text Notification From One Contact

Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 phone. I can send and receive messages, however, when my son sends a text message to me from his Samsung Galaxy S7 phone, mine does not ring. Anyone else sends a message I get the message tone. Any ideas as to why this happens with only one caller? I have checked my sound settings for messages and even assigned him his own sound but that made no difference.

Solution: There’s a possibility that you might have muted the conversation thread of your son. To fix this problem follow the steps listed below.

  • Open the text message of the user
  • Click on the down arrow beside their phone number top left (conversation setting will open)
  • Change the notification setting (if the setting selector is grey then it is muted)

S6 Text Message not Responding After Marshmallow Update

Problem: I just updated to 6.0.1 and now messaging wont work. I either get an error saying its not responding or it opens to a blank screen with no options or messages. help please. I have Samsung Galaxy S6 active (AT&T)

Solution: Certain phone issues can usually occur right after a major software update. One common factor that causes this is the old software data that gets left behind during the update process which then causes a conflict with the new software version. In your particular case the messaging app no longer works. What you should do first is to try to clear the cache and data of your messaging app from the application manager. If this doesn’t fix the problem then I highly recommend that you perform a factory reset. Just make sure to backup your phone data before doing this step.

S6 Deleted Text Messages Reappear

Problem: After deleted text messages, they re-appear. It happens with the two people i text the most. If i delete a text … i will get the last one i deleted… sometimes just the last text..sometimes the last convo. Its really annoying

Solution: Try clearing the cache and data of the text messaging app from the application manager for starters. If the issue still remains after this then try to check if you have a sync service active in your device that syncs your messages online. Try to disable this if it is active.

  1. Since updating my phone, galaxy S6, it won’t let me send texts to any new contacts. Contacts that were in my phone still work it’s just new contacts.
