It’s undeniable that Samsung’s latest flagship, the #GalaxyS7, is superior to the current crop of smartphones being offered in the market. Just ask any S7 user who have used it for some time now and they can confirm this claim. But just like any smartphone, it’s not perfect. It’s still susceptible to some factors that have nothing to do with this great hardware. Below are some of the issues that some S7 users have submitted to us these past few days:

Is there any way for me to view an email password in the stock email app? I have forgotten it and it is only stored on my phone, but it is blanked out by dots. I have tried to search for answers to this question and I found this:
Browse to /data/user/0/com.android.email/databases and copy EmailProvider.db to your computer. Other phones might have their database in a different location. Download and install Sqlite Database Browser from sourceforge.net if you haven’t, and then skip down to the sqlitebrowser instructions here: https://ubuntu42.blogspot.fr/2011/11/android-recover-mail-password.html
However, that directory doesn’t exist or is hidden from me. My device is not rooted and I am reading that ones with Snapdragon processors can’t be anyway. Am I out of luck?

Solution: Hi Holly. Passwords in Android platform are stored in an encrypted portion of the storage device to ensure security is enforced so yes, you are out of luck. There’s no way to view stored passwords in an unrooted Galaxy S7. We are not aware of any specific app that can be used to do what you want after rooting an S7 so please continue to do your own research.
In case you are locked out of your email though, you can always use the “forgot password” link to reset it. If your email account is provided by other services that don’t offer password reset option (which is unheard of anyway), make sure that you contact them for assistance.
Phone is 3 months old. on Friday I used the flashlight app, turned off the phone, turned it on hour later then it started leaving a purple shadowing image on screen. it got worse over the weekend and Sunday complete black screen.
I have done all of the reboots, but nothing appears on screen. When it turns back on, it flashes green and that’s all i get. I am still under warranty but I am afraid of losing my photos. I was told that I could send it out but I will be without a phone for 2-3 weeks. no matter what I do I can not get anything to appear on the screen.
Is there a way to disconnect the Marshmallow update so I can pull my pictures off my phone and put them on my PC?
Also, I tried to sync stuff to Google and I can’t seem to find anything on my Google account. — Chad
Solution: Hi Chad. If the phone still shows indications that it boots up fine because it vibrates when restarting it, rings for incoming calls or sounds off notifications for messages, you can assume that the problem is isolated to the screen assembly only. This means that the other than a malfunctioning screen, everything works fine. Because you need a working screen to make changes to the phone’s operating system to put it in file transfer mode when connected to a PC, there’s no way to move your files from the phone to a computer at this time. The best thing that you can do in this case is to find a way to have the screen replaced.
Is there a way to disconnect the Marshmallow update so I can pull my pictures off my phone and put them on my PC? Reverting a firmware version to the previous one, like going from Marshmallow to Lollipop, is not possible unless you want to manually do it. Doing so involves wiping the storage device so it’s not exactly a solution if you want to save your files in the first place.
I tried to sync stuff to Google and I can’t seem to find anything on my Google account. What “stuff” are you referring here exactly? Syncing to your Google account does not mean you’ll find all files in one place. There are a few different ways to backup stuff to a Google account and each of them can be accessed by a different way too. For example, if you installed a Google+ app on your phone and set it up so that the device automatically uploads every photo in the storage device it can find, you must specifically go to your Google+ profile to view said photos.
You also have an option to store photos, videos, documents, etc. to Google Drive. Try to access Google Drive on another device or in a computer and see if your stuff are all there.
Starting this morning (11.06.2016) my phone went crazy. Most of my apps crash for no apparent reason and the phone used to reboot every 3 mins, until I restored it to factory.
Now that I’ve lost all my apps, music and photos, it is still happening. And i don’t understand why. if it were a third-party app, now that i deleted everything shouldn’t it be fixed? Is my phone broken for good?
Also when it rebooted it used to stay up to 5 mins at the SAMSUNG logo vibrating like crazy. Now it doesn’t reboots as frequently but it still does it and apps crash like crazy, “9Gag” and “Google Chrome” hardly work and “Youtube” crashes at first tap. — Robert
Solution: Hi Robert. If you observed the phone for at least 24 hours after a factory reset (without re-installing apps during this period) and the issue remains, then you can safely assume that you have a hardware issue at hand.
Random reboot issue of this kind can be caused by a bad battery. If you’re lucky, Samsung can replace the defective part only. Otherwise, you really have to go for a full phone replacement.
Using Smart Switch, I recently transferred Contacts, Text Messages, etc. from my Galaxy S5 to my new Galaxy S7 Edge. Everything was transferred just fine.
Often times I save web pages/links by “Sharing via Messages” so that they are in my Messages In Box under the heading of Voicemail. I happened to be looking for an old text message under Messages then Voicemail and noticed that all of the messages under “Voicemail” are missing, hidden or have been deleted except for the few I just saved in the last couple of days. All of my other text messages under regular contact names are still there. Can I use Smart Switch to only transfer my text messages? Should I delete all the messages so they are not duplicated or will I get a pop-up saying “Message already exist. Do you want to replace”? Help!! Thanks. — Michael
Solution: Hi Michael. Samsung’s Smart Switch is as thorough as any similar app can be when transferring files. However, it’s not perfect and not all stuff may be moved from one device to another. If not all text messages are moved from the Galaxy S5 to the S7, that’s an indication the missing ones are not supported. Unfortunately, there’s nothing that we can do about it. What you see is what you get. If you want to know why this is happening, be sure to contact Samsung for details.
Smart switch can be used to transfer text messages only. Make sure that you put a check mark on the box next to “Messages” before you hit the transfer button. Identical messages will be flagged and you will be asked if you want to overwrite existing ones.
The last update for Android really did a number on my system. Where I used to get pretty reliable 4G service and connectivity outside of WiFi settings, now I’m at about 10% of my previous connective rate. Beyond that, my phone loses charge much faster. It used to last me about a day and a half, and now 4 hours off of a charger and it’s a paper weight.
Beyond that, my device has started overheating. I noticed it the first time while using Waze to navigate a long road trip while my device was charging. It overheated to the point of warning, and then powered off. It was HOT. Now I notice it happens any time I have an app requiring a lot of power, such as Candy Crush, Waze, or Youtube. It is not just periods of overheating, either. It runs much hotter than it used to prior to the update. When I notice it getting hot, I switch it to airplane mode and unplug it from the charger until it cools, and then it will be okay for awhile.
The ongoing connectivity issues finally forced me to do a factory reset, but the connection is still spotty and slow. I am still testing the battery life and the overheating issues after the reset. — Sarah
Solution: Hi Sarah. Updating the operating system does not necessarily mean all the apps get updated as well. If your phone runs the latest Android OS but some or one of your apps is not optimized to work with this new operating system, conflicts may develop. If nothing changed after you did a factory reset, you can assume that one of your apps is the culprit. It’s your job to isolate which of your apps is responsible. We recommend though that you do another round of factory reset and observe how the phone works for 24 hours without installing any app. This will give you an idea whether or not our hunch is correct. If the issue remains even without third party apps, you can assume that the firmware running on your device may have bugs. If your carrier provided the firmware via OTA update, be sure to contact them so they’ll know that they will have to tweak some codes.
