Hello Samsung fans! Welcome to another troubleshooting article for the #GalaxyS8. Like our other posts, we will be addressing some common S8 issues today. One of the cases here is about an S8 being unable to connect to a PC. Find out what you can do when faced with this issue.

Problem #1: Galaxy S8 fails to power on after accidental drop
Hello. I dropped my phone last night. I have done this a few times with other phones unfortunately and have cracked the screens but the phone still worked. This time it is completely dead, screen won’t come in when hooked to a charger, no vibration absolutely nothing, no response at all. My screen is not cracked and I are no damage at all.
Solution: The only troubleshooting step that you can try right now is to see whether or not there’s a charging issue, or a problem with the charging port. You can do this by using another known working charging cable and adapter. Should the phone boot up or if it charges, then the old charging accessories may be to blame. In case the charging port has an issue or has been damaged, you should still be able to power on the phone by charging wirelessly. If you don’t have a wireless charger ready, try to borrow one. If that still fails to power the phone back on, you can assume that the last accidental drop must have killed the motherboard. In this case, you either have to go through an expensive (and impractical) motherboard replacement, or simply has to find a way to replace the phone itself. Contact Samsung for advice.
Problem #2: What to do if Galaxy S8 Bixby and Back buttons stop working
I have Samsung S8. Right now, both Home Bixby Key and Back Button are not functioning. The back button works if you restart the phone but after several hours, it goes back to being unresponsive. So what I did is, I turned on the assistive menu on my settings and installed a screenshot app. I already did basic troubleshooting like Safe mode, Restarting the device, and uninstalling apps. I just wanna know if there’s something else I can do on my end or any other troubleshooting steps before I look for someone else and pay them to solve this issue. Thank you! Solution: An important information you did not give us is your phone’s history. If the Bixby and Back button issue occurs right after the phone has been physically impacted, or exposed to elements (water, temperature extremes), then save yourself from trouble of finding software tweaks for solutions. Instead, you want to let a professional take a look at the hardware so you’ll know if repair is needed.
If the phone has not been physically damaged at all and the problem happens out of the blue, the most likely cause is software coding or bad app. In this case, you should do a factory reset to return all software information to their defaults. Afterwards, you can then narrow down the factors.
To factory reset your S8:
- Turn off the device. This is important. If you can’t turn it off, you’ll never be able to boot to Recovery Mode. If you are not able to shut the device off regularly via the Power button, wait until the phone’s battery is drained. Then, charge the phone for 30 minutes before booting to Recovery Mode.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
- Set the phone as a new device and check for the problem. If both buttons work, this means that there was either a bug with the operating system (and was removed), or one of your apps is interfering with Android.
Since you’ll have no idea which of the two is the cause, you should consider installing apps one by one so that you can check for the problem after each installation. There’s no direct way to know which of your apps is the cause so you have to invest time and effort in this task.
On the other hand, if the problem returns right after a factory reset and even when there are no third party apps installed at all, the root cause is most probably unfixable on your end. Contact Samsung for more help.
Problem #3: What to do if Galaxy S8 won’t connect to PC
Hello. my Samsung Galaxy S8 will not connect to my Win7 Pro PC. It sometimes connects rarely after a 100 tries. I think that somehow it’s related to the fact that my PC has a Samsung 500 gig SSD. When I connect to my wife’s notebook, (no SSD), it connects just fine. So I think it’s my SSD. I have the latest Samsung USB driver installed. I sent a note to Samsung explaining but to no avail. I went to Verizon also but they just said they don’t know about PC’s. I also did a refresh with the phone but still NG. I sure would appreciate your help.
Solution: If your S8 connects without problems to another PC, that means that the problem is outside of it. Try to install Samsung Smart Switch to your PC to update its drivers for Samsung devices. Make sure to uninstall all Samsung-related programs from your computer before installing Smart Switch. It’s also a good idea to update the Windows OS before doing so. If your S8 still fails to connect to it after doing all these, save yourself from hassle and don’t use that PC at all. An issue like this has a lot of moving parts and discussing all the possible causes for your problem is beyond our scope of support. Problem #4: Galaxy S8 Reg90 error when using wifi calling
I have a Samsung Galaxy S8 from Metro PCS however I no longer have service with them and was using WiFi calling for a year up until yesterday the 22nd of September. I was in the middle of a call and it just ended and now when I try to enable WiFi calling it says reg90 error. I tried clearing the SIM app cache and tried clearing phone cache with holding home button and volume up method I’m at a loss. is there any way to get WiFi calling back? I have the strangest feeling they disables my phones ability to do WiFi calling and I’d rather not factory reset my phone. I even tried changing sim cards. please help there is little to no information on the reg90 error.
Solution: Wifi calling reg90 error is an account-related error so there’s no troubleshooting step that you can do on your device to fix it. The most likely reason for the error may be tied to your account (phone number) so we suggest that you work with your network operator to figure out the cause. We don’t work for any carrier in the US so we can only speculate about reg90 error. A quick Google search about the said error though yields this link from T-Mobile website. If you are a T-Mo subscriber, the error may be a prompt for you to set up an e911 address.
