Solved S8 Fast Charging Not Working After Oreo Update

The #Samsung #Galaxy #S8 is a flagship phone released in 2017 which is unlike its predecessor. It has undergone a design change where it has lost the physical home button but then it has also gained a lot of screen real estate. This device actually uses a 5.8 inch Super AMOLED display but has almost similar overall body dimensions as that of the S7. Although this is a solid performing phone there are instances when certain issues can occur which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S8 fast charging not working after Oreo update issue and other related problems.

S8 Fast Charging Not Working After Oreo Update

Problem: Ever since my phone updated to Oreo i have had persistent issues. It started out with apps crashing all the time so i performed a hard reset and tried again however apps still crash regularly in particular apple music and an android system process (cant remember name). Also over the last week the phone has lost the noise that alerts me that i have connected my phone to a charger, fast charging doesn’t work with an original charger unless you unplug it and try again 2 or 3 times. Having said that i have tried it 3 times tonight and it’s not even charging at the slow charge rates. Went from 1% to 5% and now have been stuck on 6% for about 20 minutes. I also connect my phone to my computer via an original Samsung cable and that use to work pretty well however now my phone won’t pick up that its a computer for me to then select file transfer so all it does it uses the pc as a charger. My computer gives me an error message so it knows a device is connected but my phone just doesn’t know the computer is even there. Makes it impossible to transfer large files for backup when the phone suddenly wont do anything. Wish i had never updated to Oreo.

Solution: The first thing that you will need to do in this case is to check if the problem is caused by dirt or debris stuck in the charging port of the phone. Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Once this is done try using a different charging cord and wall charger to charge the phone.

If the issue still persists then the next step is to check if this is caused by old software data that has not been completely removed during the update process. This old data will usually cause a conflict with the new software version resulting in issues such as the one you are experiencing with the phone right now. To completely remove the old data you will have to backup your phone data then proceed with the steps listed below.

  • Wipe the cache partition of the phone in recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

In case the issue still persists then this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component. The best thing to do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

S8 Screen Is Flashing After Drop

Problem: Hello! I dropped my Samsung Galaxy S8 last night and with having a durable case, it began flashing green and white constantly. I cannot even enter my passcode quick enough to try to reboot it/turn it off and back on. Any solutions to this issue? So frustrating. Thank you! I’m not sure which version the phone is either.

Solution: It looks like the drop might have damaged some component inside the phone. You can try restarting the phone by pressing and holding both power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds. Your phone should restart after this. In case the issue persists then you will have to start the phone in recovery mode then do a factory reset. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data.

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then you will need to bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S8 Refuses To Turn On

Problem: My S8 refuses to turn on. When trying to turn it in it runs the Samsung screen then goes blank and stops. Then, when trying again it will act as though it was on but charging and show the charging battery sign at full juice and turn off. This is the same problem I had a few weeks ago and I ran all of the steps on your site to try and fix it but it has happened again.

Solution: The first thing that you will need to do in this case is to make sure that your phone battery has sufficient charge. To do this just follow the steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air.
  • Charge the phone for at least 20 minutes using a charging cord and wall charger that have been tested to work on another device. In case the phone does not charge then try charging it from a computer USB port.
  • Turn on the phone by pressing and holding both power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds.

If the phone is still stuck in the Samsung screen then proceed with removing the microSD card of the phone ( if you have one installed) then start the device in recovery mode. From here you will need to do a factory reset. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

  1. For fast charging after the Oreo update, make sure the battery monitor is off. Basically, there’s a setting where the phone monitors which apps are using power. Turn this option off. When it’s off, fast charging seems to work again. (I know — it’s bizarre)
