Problem: Hi there! Really hoping that you can help me figure out what the deal is regarding my Samsung A6 and the screen problem I haven’t been able to solve. Several months ago, I was using my phone and the screen just went black out of nowhere. Turned it off and back on, but only the led light at the top and the buttons at the bottom would illuminate. Made all the usual startup sounds, but nothing on the screen at all. I tried the soft reset, as well as many other ideas, but still nothing. Even the one where you hold certain buttons for a time and something “boot recovery” comes up in blue letters in the corner. The screen showed no such letters, but the button lights and led became active, so I knew it was doing what it was supposed to, I just couldn’t see anything, and I ended up throwing in the towel. Over the months my wife and I have gotten new phones, but I have a ton of stuff on my old phone that I really would like to have. I got the bright idea to swap the “guts” or motherboard out with my wifes A6 & assumed that would be that…Not quite, Unfortunately. I am actually now more puzzled than before, because after putting my phones guts with her screen, and then her phones guts with my old screen, I could not get either screen to come on. They were BOTH acting like my phone had been to begin with. Button lights and led active, but nothing on the screens. I swapped them back, and my wifes came back on just fine, and mine continues to function as it was, with nothing coming up on the screen. I’m obviously not a technician or anything, but I don’t understand how the guts from my phone can cause her screen to fail, while the guts from her phone failed to cause my old screen to work. To me, it should be either the screen OR the something on the motherboard causing the issue, but it appears that both the screen and motherboard became faulty at the same exact time, which I assume is somewhat improbable, but maybe not impossible…So that’s what I’m needing some expert advice on. Are they both to blame? Is there ANYTHING that I might could do to retrieve all of the data? I would be highly relieved if that were somehow possible, even more grateful to you guys if someone knows how and could inform me on what it is that I might could try and do. Solution: The best way to recover data from your phone right now is by using the Smart Switch software from Samsung. Take note though that your phone must be unlocked in order to retrieve the data stored in it.
- Go to the Samsung Smart Switch support website.
- Click on the download link for Windows or Mac
- Click to launch the downloaded .exe file (.dmg on Mac).
- If there is an error that says The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect, download and install this Microsoft Visual C++ package.
- Click the check boxes to verify that you accept the terms of the licence agreement.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish once the installation process is complete.
- Smart Switch will launch in your computer.
- Connect your phone to your computer via USB cable to get started. The program should instantly recognize when it’s connected. You may be prompted to allow USB file transfers on your phone.
- On the Safe Switch software Click Backup.
- You’ll be required to allow access permissions on your phone.
- Pick up your phone.
- Tap Allow. If you have a micro SD card in your phone, you will have the option to back that data up as well.
In case Safe Switch requires you to tap on the phone to allow the backup then you won’t be able to do this since the display is damaged. You should then proceed to the next option which is to use the computer file manager program to browse the contents of the phone and if you are able to view the photos immediately make a copy of these.
If the the above suggestions don’t work then the only way you will be able to retrieve the data stored in the phone is to first have the phone checked at a service center and have the faulty hardware component that is causing this problem replaced.
