How To Fix Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Intermittently Not Charging
Problem: Hello! I have an odd issue. Sometimes when I plug my phone into charge (wired, on the fast charger provided with the phone purchase) either nothing happens or it will only list the phone as charging (sometimes giving me a message that I should only use the charger provided with the phone). I unplug the charger when this happens and then plug the phone back in and it works and goes about fast charging as normal. It is very intermittent. I could plug the phone in 5 times and only 1 out of the 5 times would this happen. I have tried to clean the port to the best of my ability and have reset the phone but it is still happening. The phone is fine otherwise, it’s just such an annoying thing and even more annoying for the times I have plugged the phone in, not realizing this was happening and the phone didn’t charge. Please advise!
Clean the charging port of the phone
The first thing that you will need to do in this case is to make sure that the charging port is free form any dirt or debris. Clean this port using a can of compressed air then check if the problem still persists.
Use a different charging cord and wall charger
Sometimes this issue can be caused by a faulty charging cord since this cord gets easily broken. Try using another charging cord and wall charger to charge the phone.
Backup your phone data then do a factory reset
To eliminate any software glitches that could be causing the problem I suggest that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset in recovery mode. Once this is done do not install any apps in your phone just yet. Instra, try to check first if the issue still occurs.
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
