How To Fix Samsung Galaxy A9 Camera Not Saving Pictures To Gallery

Problem: Today was the firsts time I ever experienced my phone not being able to save pictures. Also, my pictures that were saved on the internal memory are gone, but the ones that were taken as a screenshot are still on the device. If I take a picture, it turns gray as a thumbnail, but when I go to gallery it isn’t there. Same problem with trying to record, it gives an error message. Please tell me there’s a way I can recover the missing or deleted pictures.

Solution: Before performing the troubleshooting steps listed below it’s always best to check if your phone is running on the latest software version. If an update is available then I suggest that you download and install it first.

Perform a Soft Reset

The first thing that you will need to do in this case is a soft reset. This is basically restarting the phone so as to refresh the phone software. This step will usually resolve minor software glitches that could be causing the problem.

To perform a soft reset just hold the power button and the volume-down button for around 10 seconds. Let go of the buttons once you feel the device vibrate and see the Samsung Galaxy A9 logo on the screen. Your phone will then reboot, and hopefully, start working properly once again.

Clear the cache and data of the Camera and Gallery apps

In case the soft reset does not fix the problem the next step is to clear the cache and data of the camera and gallery apps. This will remove the cached data of the apps which if corrupted can cause issues such as this.

  • From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen.
  • Go to Settings then Apps.
  • Ensure All apps is selected
  • Locate then select the Camera app
  • Tap Storage.
  • Tap CLEAR CACHE.

Repeat the above procedure for the Gallery app.

  • From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen.
  • Go to Settings – Device maintenance – Storage
  • Tap CLEAN NOW.

Check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode

Sometimes an app you downloaded can cause this particular problem. The best way to check if this is what’s happening right now is to start the phone in Safe Mode since only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.

  • Turn the phone Off
  • Press and hold “Power”
  • At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down”
  • After the phone finishes rebooting, release the keys. A “Safe Mode” watermark should be visible in the lower area of the home screen

If the photos can be seen in the Gallery in this mode then you should find out what app is causing the problem and uninstall it.

Wipe the cache partition of the phone

The phone will usually store cached data of apps in a special partition on the internal storage. This cached data allows the phone to open apps quickly however there are instances when the saved data can become corrupted which can cause issues on the device. To eliminate this factor you will need to wipe the cache partition of the phone.

  • Turn the phone Off if necessary
  • Press and hold “Power” “Volume down” and “Home”/”Bixby” at the same time
  • At the Android screen, release the buttons and wait for access to Android Recovery
  • Press “Volume down” to navigate the menu to highlight “Wipe cache partition”
  • Press “Power” to select the highlight
  • Finally, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power”

Perform a factory reset

One last troubleshooting step that you should consider doing is a factory reset. This reverts your phone to its original factory condition. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing this step as it will be deleted in the process. You can connect the phone to your computer then browse the DCIM folder of the phone for any available photos that you can make a backup copy of.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  • Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then the problem is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component. The best thing to do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
