There are several factors that can cause this particular problem ranging from a corrupted file to a bug in the update. Listed below are the troubleshooting steps you need to do to fix this problem.

Try turning on legacy mode

  • Open Discord
  • Click on the User Settings (gear icon). This should be on the right side of your avatar.
  • Click on Voice & Video from the left pane
  • Scroll down and select Legacy from the drop down menu under Audio Subsystem
  • Click Okay if the app asks you to confirm the action

Delete AppData Discord Contents

If the problem is caused by corrupted cached data this step needs to be done. Don’t worry as this is just temporary data which will be recreated.

  • Hold Windows key and press E
  • Type %AppData%\discord in the address bar of Windows Explorer and press Enter
  • Double click Cache folder
  • Delete all the files from this folder. Hold the CTRL key and press A (CTRL + A) and press Delete. Confirm any additional prompts
  • Go back to the Discord folder and Double click Local Storage folder
  • Delete all the files from this folder. Hold the CTRL key and press A (CTRL + A) and press Delete. Confirm any additional prompts

  • Hold Windows key and press E
  • Type %AppData% in the address bar of Windows Explorer and press Enter
  • Find the Discord folder then right-click the Discord folder and select Delete. Confirm any additional prompts
  • Type %LocalAppData% in the address bar of Windows Explorer and press Enter
  • Find the Discord folder. Right-click the Discord folder and select Delete. Confirm any additional prompts
  • Hold Windows key and press R
  • Type appwiz.cpl and press enter
  • Locate the Discord app from the list and select it.
  • Click Uninstall and follow the on-screen instructions
  • Reboot
  • Reinstall the Discord app once the system is rebooted.
