5 Best Games Like Fable

Fable was one of the defining series of the role playing game genre. It was one of the first titles where players truly were given player-choice. Every exploration, quest, and interaction would have an affect on your character. Not only that, but there was rich character progression, different classes, and thousands of different combinations that you could do to make your experience unique in the world of Fable. There was a seemingly endless amount of content as well — in addition to a rich story line, there was a never-ending amount of side quests to continue your journey in this immersive world.

Unfortunately, Fable as a series has slowly died off in popularity as similar games have taken its place. So what are some great games like Fable? Follow along below, and we’ll show you some of our favorite similar role-playing games!

Mass Effect: Andromeda

Coming up in number five position on our list, we’re looking at an extremely popular open-world role playing game series — Mass Effect, and specifically the Andromeda installment. If you don’t mind some science fiction in your life, players jump into space, specifically the Andromeda galaxy. The game has one of the most immersive and thrilling story lines in gaming today — something that BioWare is well known for. Andromeda has an expansive universe that players will be able to explore.

Fallout 76

Fallout 76 is a relatively new title that has hit the market, coming in as the prequel to the Fallout series. If you’re looking for an open-world RPG, Fallout 76 is your guy. If you’re familiar with the expansive worlds ofThe Elder Scrolls: Skyrim and Fallout 4, you should know that Fallout 76 is made by the same developers. That said, you’ll get a massive world that you’ll be able to take part in, a rich main story line to complete, and hundreds of side quests.

This one sets itself apart from the other Fallout games, where players will be able to play as real people in this sequel, working to survive together after bombs have fallen from the skies.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Coming up in number three place is Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Kingdoms of Amalur is a pretty big title — it was a massive undertaking for the developers, and it eventually put that game studio out of business because they couldn’t recover. However, it’s a finished title that’ll give players thousands of hours of content to play with.

There’s a massive universe to explore as well as a rich storyline to take part in. You’ll be able to rescue a world in chaos, have fun with a dynamic and unique combat system, and stay busy with hundreds of quests that you’ll be able to complete. There’s a rich character customization mechanic — though not nearly as expansive as Skyrim — allowing you to be able to truly make him or her unique with millions of combinations of skills, abilities, weapons and pieces of armor.

Dragon Age: Inquisition

Dragon Age: Inquisition is the latest game in the Dragon Age series. Originally launched in 2014, it offers an expansive universe and one of the most immersive story lines in gaming today. The plot is essentially that a cataclysmic event brings the land into turmoil, where dragons darken the sky, and mages break out into all out war. The world is an absolute chaos, but it’s up to you to save it and restore peace.

There’s plenty of character customization in this game, a dynamic combat system, awesome dialog, and plenty of player-choice that makes every playthrough truly unique.

Verdict

Here we’ve shown you five of the best alternatives to the Fable series. Our favorite is probably The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, as there’s thousands of hours of content in this title. There’s a rich main story line, and then thousands of other side quests that players will be able to participate in. On top of that, their character customization system is probably the most similar to Fable, or at least the closest you can get.
