Pixel 4 Confirmed to Support Fast Wireless Charging on Any Qi Charger

While the Pixel 3 from last year did introduce wireless charging to the lineup, it could only charge wirelessly at up to 5W, although the speeds went up to 10W with the Pixel Stand accessory. It has now been revealed that the recently announced Pixel 4 lineup takes this a step further with an official rating of 11W fast charging as per the Wireless Power Consortium. This means that the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL can offer fast wireless charging on pretty much any wireless charger, regardless of which manufacturer you bought it from.

What’s surprising here is that Google never talked about it during the announcement of the Pixel 4. This is a major change that’s worth telling new customers about, particularly since it pertains to a feature that didn’t exist before. It is also worth pointing out that reviews of the Pixel 4 suggest that its battery life is pretty substandard, and reportedly feels like a downgrade from the predecessor. Keeping this in mind, prospective buyers of the Pixel 4 will finally have something to cheer about with this news.

For those unaware, the Pixel 4 is Google’s newest flagship launched alongside the larger Pixel 4 XL. It packs a 5.7-inch 2280 x 1080 resolution P-OLED display with a 90 Hz refresh rate, the octa-core Snapdragon 855 processor, 6GB of RAM, 64/128GB of internal storage (non-expandable), 16MP + 12.2MP rear cameras, dual 8MP front cameras, Android 10, and a 2,800 mAh battery. The Pixel 4 XL uses a slightly larger 6.3-inch display and an improved resolution of 3040 x 1440. The battery is also bigger on this device with Google settling for a 3,700 mAh unit. Both phones are currently up for pre-order in the U.S. and will be officially available on October 24.
