OnePlus Details Android 10 Update Plans for Older Devices

While OnePlus has talked about the Android 10 update for its 2019 handsets like the OnePlus 7 Pro as well as the freshly launched OnePlus 7T which will feature Android 10 by default, the company was relatively quiet about its update rollout plans for older devices. Well, the company has now offered a detailed timeline for its 2018 and 2017 flagships respectively.

The company took to the OnePlus Forums to announce plans for the Android 10 update for the OnePlus 6 and 6T as well as the OnePlus 5/5T. OnePlus mentions that the update is already rolling out for the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro while the OnePlus 6 and 6T update is now said to be in open beta with a commercial release slated for next month.

Customers of the OnePlus 5 and the 5T, however, will have to wait until at least the first half of 2020 to see the update on their phones while it no longer has a beta program, which means even those with beta access cannot try out the new Android 10 w/OxygenOS 10 on their OnePlus 5/5T. While it’s fairly impressive of the company to send out the update to its older flagships, the timing is certainly not appreciated by the fans. It is also worth noting that Android 10 will probably be old news by mid-2020 as Google plans the next major release by then (Android 11).

Either way, it’s good to see OnePlus supporting its phones even three years after their initial release, although we’re not too sure about the fate of updates after Android 10, especially for phones like the OnePlus 5 and 5T.

Are there any OnePlus 5T customers in our midst? What do you make of this news?
