Nokia 8.1 Is Getting the Android 10 Update

Nokia has just announced the rollout of Android 10 for the Nokia 8.1 mid-ranger, making this a first for the company this year. The manufacturer also plans to update a few other smartphones, but as of now, the Nokia 8.1 is the only device getting this honor. In terms of changes, there are going to be quite a few. But that’s mostly because Android 10 introduces a bunch of new software features like smart replies, a customizable dark mode feature throughout the UI, as well as gesture navigation.

Nokia will send out updates to the Nokia 7.1 and Nokia 9 PureView later this year, although the wait shouldn’t be too long. It’s commendable of Nokia to start pushing updates to its smartphones when most manufacturers have only begun working on it now. This is also in part because of the stock Android interface that Nokia sticks to. This means the company doesn’t offer a lot of customizations of its own, making it easier to send out major updates like this.

A leaked Google document recently revealed how the company plans to get every manufacturer onboard the Android 10 train, putting in a clause within Google Mobile Services that requires each new Android phone to come with Android 10 by default starting in January 2020. While this may be beneficial in the long run, Google has to sort out the users who are currently stuck on Android 8.0 Oreo and Android 9.0 Pie.

As for the Nokia 8.1, the update should start reaching devices shortly. Customers can also try pulling the update manually from the Settings. Unfortunately, Nokia hasn’t shared an update changelog detailing what’s new with this particular update. In the meantime, be sure to let us know if you’re already seeing the update.
