How To Fix Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Only Charges At A Certain Angle
Problem: I currently own a Samsung Galaxy Note 9, I started having issues with my device sometime in the middle of last month. The problems were very subtle and I thought it was just the charger, I bought a new charger and it started working just as it originally had so I thought nothing about it. A month later the charger was having issues connecting, I thought that I may have caught the charger in the door or something and pinched the wires because if I bent the cord a certain way it would charge as normal. Eventually, this slowly stopped working as well, not only was it having difficulties charging but now it seemed to loose power faster while in use. I yet again bought another charger, this one started working fine and I started to see an increase in power in my phone! Back to the original performance, I was happy, the phone was happy, everyone was happy. After another month the charger starts to charge the phone and the phone dies at 70% (give or take 10%) and when you plugged the phone in, it would show as if the phone was at 70%, like 3 days later my charger starts getting picky about the position it must be in to charge the phone. I have borrowed another charger and this one will not charge my phone at all, I tried a brand new charger and this one won’t charge either so I returned it. Now my phone practically dies the minute you unplug it, you have to use that one specific charger that will still charge it, the charger has to be in just the right position, and the phone doesn’t turn off like it originally did, now it just completely goes black without any sound or vibration. Is it my phone’s charging port? I don’t know why that would be but it seems like the only explanation for why the charger has to be in a specific position.
Solution: Before proceeding with the troubleshooting of the problem the first thing that you will need to do is to make sure that the phone is running on the latest software version. If an update is available then I suggest that you download and install it in your device. Once this is done then proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below.
Clean the charging port of the phone
There are instances when dirt or debris stuck in the charging port of the phone can cause issues with the device charging. To eliminate this possibility it’s best to clean this port using a can of compressed air.
Use a different USB charging cord
The charging cord is a fragile accessory as it gets damaged easily if it is constantly coiled or bent. If you have a damaged cord then try replacing this with a new one.
Use a different wall charger
Sometimes a faulty wall charger can cause this particular problem. To check if this is what’s causing the problem then try to use a different wall charger.
Perform a factory reset
One final troubleshooting step to consider is a factory reset. This will revert your phone back to its original factory condition and is a great way to check if a software glitch is causing the problem. Take note that your phone data will be deleted in the process so make sure to create a backup copy before proceeding with this.
- Turn off the phone.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
If the problem still occurs even after performing the steps listed above then this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component already. The best thing to do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
