Fix a Samsung Galaxy A40 that keeps disconnecting from WiFi network

Troubleshooting a Galaxy A40 that keeps disconnecting from WiFi network

When troubleshooting a smartphone that has some sort of software issue, you need to be thorough to determine the cause of the problem and be able to fix it. With that being said, here’s what you need to do to fix this issue…

First solution: Perform the forced restart

This must be the first thing you have to do, in fact, it could be the only this you have to do to fix this problem. This is a simulated battery removal which will refresh your phone’s memory and reload its apps and services if done correctly. It’s very effective against minor firmware issue and here’s how it’s done: 

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet. 
  2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well. 
  3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A40 logo shows on the screen.

When the phone has finished rebooting, let it reconnect to the network and try to see if it still keeps disconnecting because if it still does, try the next solution. 

Second solution: Reset Network Settings to fix phone that keeps disconnecting

If your Galaxy A40 keeps disconnecting from the network due to a minor firmware issue affecting the network services, then this procedure will fix this problem. It resets all network settings back to default values as well as delete all existing network profiles your phone is using. Here’s how it’s done: 

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down. 
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner. 
  3. Scroll to and tap General management. 
  4. Touch Reset. 
  5. Tap Reset network settings. 
  6. Tap Reset settings. 
  7. If prompted, enter your PIN, Password or Pattern. 
  8. Finally, tap Reset.

After this, enable WiFi so your phone will scan the area for available hotspots. Let it reconnect to your own network and if it still keeps disconnecting, then try the next solution. 

Third solution: Power-cycle your network devices

It is possible that the problem is with your network devices such as your router or modem. Electronic devices, no matter what their functions are, need to be refreshed from time to time and you can do so by rebooting them. Don’t worry, you won’t lose anything if you did this. Here’s how…

  1. Unplug the power adapter of your router and/or modem. 
  2. If you have a modem that’s backed up by a battery, remove the battery as well. 
  3. Leave the device without power for a minute or two. 
  4. After that, plug it into the wall outlet again and then wait until it becomes online.
  5. Let your phone reconnect to the network. 

If your Galaxy A40 still keeps disconnecting from the WiFi network after doing this procedure, then troubleshoot the firmware. 

Fourth solution: Wipe cache partition

There are times when the system cache gets corrupted and when it happens, issues like this may occur. We don’t know for sure if it’s really the case but for the sake of being thorough, you should try deleting the system cache so that it will be replaced with a new one. Here’s how you do it: 

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Galaxy A40 logo shows, release all three keys.
  4. Your Galaxy A40 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step. 
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  6. Press Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

After doing this, try to see if your Galaxy A40 still keeps disconnecting from the network because if it does, then move on to the next solution. 

Fifth solution: Perform the Master Reset

A master reset will be able to fix this problem provided that it’s just an issue with the firmware that’s affecting the phone’s radio processes. But before the reset, make sure to create a copy of your important files and data as they will be deleted. Also, don’t forget to remove your google and samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked. If everything is set and ready, follow these steps to reset your phone: 

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Galaxy A40 logo shows, release all three keys.
  4. Your Galaxy A40 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step. 
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
