Troubleshooting a Galaxy A20 with ‘Facebook keeps stopping’ error

When trying to fix a problem like this, you have to be thorough in your troubleshooting, so as not to lose some important files and data. But don’t worry, this problem is not really that hard to fix. With that said, here’s what you need to do:

First solution: Perform the Forced Restart

Before moving on to more complicated troubleshooting procedures, it’s best that you rule out the possibility that this error is just due to a minor firmware glitch. Perform the Forced Restart to refresh your phone’s memory, as well as reload all applications and services. Here’s how you do it:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
  2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
  3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A50 logo shows on the screen.

Once the phone has successfully rebooted, open the app and see if the ‘Facebook keeps stopping’ error still shows up. If it still does, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Clear the cache and data of Facebook

Doing this procedure will actually reset the app. This will delete all its cache and data files, and replace them with new files. If this is just an issue with the app, then this procedure is enough to get rid of the error and make the app work perfectly again. Here’s how you do it:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll to and then tap Apps.
  4. Find and tap Facebook.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Touch Clear cache.
  7. Touch Clear data and then tap OK to confirm.

After doing this, try to see if the ‘facebook keeps stopping’ error still shows up.

Third solution: Reset all settings

If the problem continues after the second solution, then it’s time to troubleshoot the firmware. As I said, facebook is a pre-installed app and the error can be a sign of a firmware issue. The next thing you have to do is reset all settings of your device. This procedure will have an effect like the factory reset but none of your files or data will be deleted. Here’s how:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll to and tap General management.
  4. Touch Reset.
  5. Tap Reset settings.
  6. Tap the Reset settings button.
  7. If prompted, enter your PIN, Password or Pattern.
  8. Finally, tap Reset.

After this and the error ‘facebook keeps stopping’ continues to pop up, then try the next solution.

Fourth solution: Wipe the cache partition

One of the most effective solutions against app issues is wiping off the contents of the cache partition. Doing so will delete the old cache and replace it with a new one. It’s important to do this because the error can be due to some corrupt cache files. Doing this will rule out such possibility.

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up and Power keys.
  3. When the Galaxy A20 logo shows, release all three keys.
  4. Your Galaxy A20 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  6. Press Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Once the phone has finished restarting, try to launch the app and see if the ‘Facebook keeps stopping’ error still shows up. If it still does, then you have to do the next solution.

Fifth solution: Reset your phone

The fact is a reset will be able to fix any app-related issues. In fact, all software issues can be fixed by this. The reason that this procedure often comes at the end of out troubleshooting guides is that you may lose some important files and data. So, before we recommend it, we want you to exhaust all possible solutions first. But if it so happened that the problem continues to bug you after the first four solutions, then this is what you need to do next.

Before the reset though, make sure to create a copy of your important files and data, because they will be deleted. After the backup, remove your google and samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked out after the reset. When ready, follow these steps to reset your device:

  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
