Sprint Will Launch America’s First 5G Powered OnePlus Smartphone

OnePlus is a major force in the European and Asian markets. Its reputation has been significantly bolstered since the release of the OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro. Sprint has now announced that it will carry OnePlus’ first 5G smartphone in the U.S.

“We value OnePlus’ reputation for balancing high-end quality at a great value,” said Dow Draper, Sprint chief commercial officer. “This new smartphone gives Sprint customers another exciting option for accessing their True Mobile 5G experience.”

Oddly enough, OnePlus or Sprint haven’t mentioned which smartphone this will be. However, one can assume that the two companies are bringing the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G which was recently launched in some European markets. Barring some internal structural changes to accommodate the 5G antenna, the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G should have no distinctive differences barring the obvious, including a prominent 5G logo on the back.

As for Sprint, just releasing this smartphone is merely half of the concern. The carrier currently offers 5G coverage in regions like Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston and Kansas City while regions like Los Angeles, New York, Phoenix and Washington, D.C. are expected to get 5G signals over the coming weeks. So as you can see, the company’s network isn’t that wide-spanned right now, which means there will only be a limited number of users who can access blazing fast 5G speeds on their OnePlus smartphone.

While Sprint appears to be the first, we cannot dismiss the possibility of other carriers striking a deal with OnePlus for this 5G handset, particularly the likes of AT&T and Verizon.
