How To Fix The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 Screen Flickering Issue

Before you troubleshoot this particular problem it’s best to make sure that your phone is running on the latest software version. If an update is available then I suggest that you download and install it first. This will at least minimize the possibility of the problem being caused by an outdated software.

Once your phone has the latest software update installed then proceed with the steps listed below.

Perform a soft reset

There are instances when the temporary data stored in the tablet can become corrupted. When this happens it can usually cause issues to occur. If this is what’s causing the problem then you will need to refresh the phone software by doing a soft reset. This is recommended in cases where the problem is caused by a minor software glitch.

  • Press and hold the Power and Volume down key for up to 45 seconds.
  • Wait as the device restarts.

Check if the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 screen flickering issue still occurs.

Start the phone in Safe Mode

Sometimes an app you downloaded from the Google Play Store can cause this particular issue. This can happen if the app has a few bugs or if the app is incompatible with your tablet. To check if this is the case you will have to start the device in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.

  • Turn the device off.
  • Press and hold the Power key past the screen with the device name.
  • When ‘SAMSUNG’ appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  • Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  • Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • Release the Volume down key when you see ‘Safe Mode’.

If the screen flickering does not occur in this mode then the problem could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Finding the particular app is a trial and error method. Start by uninstalling the most recent app you downloaded before the problem occurred then check if the screen still flickers. Repeat this step until the issue will not occur anymore after uninstalling a particular app. This last app is most likely the cause of the problem.

Wipe the cache partition

There are instances when a corrupted system cached data can cause this problem. It’s therefore a good idea to delete this data as the tablet will just rebuild this data when it starts again.

  • Turn off the tablet.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key
  • When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘yes’ and press the Power key to select.
  • When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

Check if the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 screen flickering issue still occurs.

Perform a factory reset

One last troubleshooting step to consider is a factory reset. This will bring your tablet back to its original factory condition. Take note that your device data will be deleted in the process so make sure to backup your data before proceeding.

  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.
  • With no apps installed in the phone, try to check if the issue still occurs.

If the above steps doesn’t fix the problem then you will need to bring the tablet to a service center and have it checked as this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component already, possibly by a defective display assembly.
