Under the hood is an Exynos 7870 processor which when combined with its available 3GB of RAM allows the device to run apps smoothly. Although this is a solid performing phone there are instances when certain issues can occur which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy J7 is not sending or receiving picture messages issue and other related problems.

J7 Is Not Sending Or Receiving Picture Messages
Problem: My samsung galaxy J7 isn’t sending or receiving pictures. Incoming pictures say downloading but never do and I get an error message. Pictures I send say failed to send. The phone was previously my mom’s and everything worked fine until I factory reset it. It’s an unlocked phone and I use it on simple mobile.
Solution: If you were able to send and receive picture messages before doing the factory reset then the problem is most likely caused by a wrong APN setting on the phone. You need to access the APN settings of the phone by following the steps listed below.
- From the Home screen, tap the Apps tray.
- Tap Settings > Connections.
- Tap Mobile networks.
- Tap Access Point Names.
Create a new APN settings with the following values:
- Name: T-Mobile Data
- APN: simple
- Proxy: Not Required
- Port: Not Required
- Username: Not Required
- Password: Not Required
- Server: Not Required
- MMSC: http://smpl.mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
- MMS proxy: leave it blank
- MMS port: leave it blank
- MCC: 310
- MNC: 260
- Authentication type: Not Required or just use the default value shown
You should now be able to send and receive picture messages.
J7 Only Receiving Part Of Text Message
Problem: I have a Galaxy J7 and my sister has an iPhone (don’t know model). When she sends a text message of length I receive part of it. The message stops mid sentence and displays the View More button where the message ends. But when I click on the View More button, on the next screen all I get is her Text Name and her cell number. I do notice that her texts are marked MMS and I believe my Android say SMS. Is there anything I can do to receive her texts in full?
Solution: It looks like the phone is unable to download the MMS sent to you. What you will want to do in this case is to make sure that you have an active mobile data subscription. You should also make sure that the mobile data switch of the phone is turned on and a good mobile signal is acquired by the device. Lastly, your phone APN settings should match the one your carrier is using.
J7 Not Receiving All Text Messages
Problem: Hi, I have a Samsung Galaxy J7. I am not receiving all texts and i know people are not receiving mine or they receive them at a later date. this has been going on for awhile now. I have restarted it several times but that didn’t help. My phone is up to date for updates. The messaging app is the samsung app and seems to happen more on group texts. Thank you for your time
Related Problem: I have been sporadically missing texts for over a year. Have literally lost friendships over not replying to people that I didn’t even know were texting me! I switched carriers and got a brand new J7 and it continued to happen! It can’t be an issue with needing to clear a cache or reset to factory because I had the phone less than 24 hours before I started missing texts again. What should I do?
Solution: There are several factors that can cause this particular problem. Let’s start by troubleshooting the phone software. Follow the steps listed below to check if a software glitch is causing the problem.
- Try clearing the cache and data of the text messaging app form the application manager then check if the issue still occurs.
- Start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
- Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
- Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
If the issue persists then try to check if the phone is getting a good signal from the network. You should check if the problem occurs when you are in a different area to isolate any network related problems.
Try using another SIM card in your phone to eliminate any account or SIM related issues that could be causing this problem.
If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should contact your carrier regarding this matter as this might be a network related problem.
