Nokia 2.2 Brings the Notch Camera to the Budget Segment

While many expected a high end smartphone to be announced by Nokia at its event today, the company managed to surprise us all by uncovering the budget ranged Nokia 2.2. This happens to be an Android One smartphone, offering the best of Google’s stock features along with a budget price tag. In terms of design, Nokia has managed to mimic most manufacturers today by introducing a notch selfie camera, a trend started by Apple a couple of years ago with the iPhone X.

In terms of hardware features, the Nokia 2.2 comes with a 5.7-inch 1520 x 720 display, 2/3GB of RAM, 16/32GB of expandable storage (up to 400GB), the octa-core Mediatek MT6761 processor, a 13MP rear camera, along with the aforementioned 5MP notch camera on the front, and a 3,000 mAh battery. The smartphone will be sold in Steel and Tungsten Black variants. What’s particularly exciting about this phone is the presence of a dedicated Google Assistant button, allowing the user to quickly activate the handy voice assistant.

The two variants of the Nokia 2.2 have been announced only in India for now, with wider availability expected soon. For the time being, however, the smartphone will remain exclusive to the region. The handset will be available for purchase in the region starting June 11. The two variants will be priced at $100 and $115 respectively in India.

The phone runs Android 9.0 Pie by default, which gives it a significant advantage over other budget offerings in the market right now. Android One devices are also promised timely updates, much like Pixel phones, so this could be one of its key selling points.
