Huawei may have axed production on several phones

The latest consequences of the US-China trade dispute could be that Huawei has stopped production on several of its smartphones, a report from the South China Morning Post says.

While there has been no word from Huawei itself, the publication says that Foxconn, one of Huawei’s manufacturing partners, received a request from Huawei to halt production on several of its smartphones.

It isn’t known what smartphones have been delayed yet.

There hasn’t been an official confirmation from Huawei, so for all we know this could be a temporary manufacturing delay based on market conditions — i.e. decreased demand because of a shrinking smartphone market.

However, it’s hard to believe that this isn’t somehow related to the trade dispute, since Huawei has quickly become a powerhouse smartphone manufacturer in the West — and that all suddenly came to a screeching halt after being put on the U.S. Entity list.

We’ll keep you updated as the story develops.
